Show off time.

I was able to meet the lovely Nastassja Kinski this weekend so I got some criterion related items signed.

Paris Texas blu ray and screenplay

And an expected future criterion release Tess. The original poster.

Nice! Nastassja Kinski was one of my faves during the 1980s. I'm feeling the need to watch Paris, Texas again now.

RIP Lou Reed.

I'm listening to The Velvet Underground - "Venus in Furs" now.

(I do not know whether this is Criterion-related news or not, but it probably is somewhere along the line.)

Yes! Why aren't there enough action/adventure films in the Criterion Collection? Honestly, this is a genre that Criterion lacks in. Please name a few movies that are action/adventure films in the collection... I can't even think of one!

Most of the Akira Kurosawa samurai Criterions come to mind.

The Most Dangerous Game was released on Criterion DVD, and that one rocks out.

Letter Never Sent, The 39 Steps, Kiss Me Deadly, The Killing, and Ministry of Fear for the win, though.

Oh yeah...and The Rock and Armageddon.

EDIT: Oh, and I would forget the ultimate adventure film, Stagecoach.

EDIT EDIT: Geez... I also forgot The Wages of Fear.

Okay, most of these titles are older films that were released before the late 1960s. How about contemporary action/adventure films? Yes, The Rock and Armageddon are exceptions but they have never been upgraded to blu-ray. That means that action/adventure is the one genre Criterion doesn't put much stock into, especially when it comes to "newer" action/adventure films! It's so true!

I could see Enemy of the State being a good candidate for a Criterion release as a "newer" action/adventure film.

David Fincher's The Game is a pretty rocking adventure, now that I think of it.

It's my favorite Fincher film, actually.

I definitely see your point, though.

With regards to the point being made about "modern" action movies, I don't see the point of Criterion "needing" to dabble in stuff that the major studios are already doing quite competently. What next, someone complaining about how Criterion does not have any "American Pie" type movies in the "Collection""?

I think that Criterion excels at including every genre, but the films may not be our idea of a particular genre at first glance.

Four Feathers is a good one!

It's just more of an observation than anything else. Criterion obviously has a kickin' catalogue.

I nominate Strange Days. That one would fit in beautifully with the collection.

Yes, I forgot about that one! The Game can definitely pass as an action/adventure film for sure! Plus its a more recent film. When I hear the name Fincher, I think of action!

I agree, their catalog is kickin', but still, the contemporary action/adventure genre is poorly represented. We'll just need a few more titles if they can get their hands on some "blockbusters" (but usually the big money blockbusters aren't very good films anyway, right?). And yes, Strange Days would be a great addition too.

They've done a fantastic job at including almost every major director, I can say that. As for genres, I can't say they've create an equal or even representation of all genres. Although I think The Coen Bros. should belong in the Criterion Collection (even though famous directors like Spielberg, Ridley Scott, Lynch and Coppola don't have their films included in the collection...yet?).

I'm not asking for movies like that, I'm just asking for more newer action/adventure films to be represented in the collection. The fact that Criterion once released The Rock, Robocop and Armageddon in their collection is proof that they actually believe in the big blockbuster-Bruckheimer-type movies and think they have "a place" in their collection. Let's see some blu-ray upgrades then!

I don't particularly care about whether certain genres or filmmakers are represented. I would rather have Criterion release a film that we wouldn't otherwise have on HD than go through re-releasing something like The Rock or some other similar film that is already on Blu Ray.

The Rock we don't need, but Armageddon, though it is on BluRay is another story. I would love to get a release because of those sweet DVD extras. It would be great to finally get my hands on that Michael Bay commentary track!

RoboCop would also be great because the current BluRay is a disaster!

i dont care if criterion releases some "blockbusters", but it would be probably be a "waste" for a big part of these movies , since the major label releases are acutally pretty good most of the time...

last criterion i watched "life during wartime" , not sure what do think about that one. i liked the movie , the bizarre actors and story. but something was just missing. not sure if i gonna watch this one again the next few years...

just won a auction in ebay for a mint army of shadows criterion bluray. only 23$ including shipping to germany
