Edit: Sorry if this is against any rules.
I don't know that's better, that this exists, or 2 people have signed it.

Of course Criterion will release it. Be patient.

Default B&N Sale!

Oh yeah under ten hours till the B&N sale can't wait to walk in the store and get some movies. I even took off work for it. Maybe I'm overly obsessed with CC lol. Anyway perfect timing just got my used copy of L'Avventura today, paid only 7$ couldn't pass and now I can get L'Eclisse and La Notte tomorrow with some others! Good luck shopping to all of you!

Hey guys, here's the full listing for the John Cassavetes box set. Individual reviews have been up for awhile for the early films, but they are all gathered here:

Do any of the Cassavettes reviews compare them to the Concorde release?

I'm really trying to talk myself into being content with what I've got (but the supplements alone are making that a little difficult).

I don't have the German box set in my library. Where possible, I have only compared the releases to the BFI discs.

Yeah, I kinda figured that was the case when they weren't mentioned in the Chinese Bookie review last week.

Thanks for the response though.

This is one of the "titles" I've targeted for the B&N Criterion sale tomorrow. Let's see if I've got this right: 50% of for the sale, 10% off for being a member, and Ive got a 20% off any one item coupon that's good for in-store or online purchase (got two of them in the mail). Does that mean 80% off for the Cassavetes set at my local store tomorrow?

No. First take 50% off. Next take 10% of that. Next take 20% off that.

For example,

50% off $100 = $50. $100 - $50 = $50
10% off $50 = $5. $50 - $5 = $45
20% off $45 = $9. $45 - $9 = $36

I am planning of getting The Lady Vanishes and The 39 Steps. Are they worth getting?

May also get Godzilla too.

Theyre both two of Hitchcocks best early works. 39 steps is the better of the two id say

Both are good releases but The Lady Vanishes has a much better presentation on blu and I'm the opposite of the cf - I think TLV is the better of the two.

They update them bit by bit now so they dont overlap with other sales or accidentally allow all releases for pre order

The website reads:
Quote:
Get your holiday shopping done early with our Criterion Collection Sale. Save 50% Off the entire line of high-quality Blu-rays and DVDs featuring deluxe packaging and bonus materials
So I'd say to give it a few hours to see if it all kicks in...

Sony Inks Distribution, Admin Deal With Criterion

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Criterion Nov. 4 said they have signed a multi-year distribution and administrative deal. Under terms of the agreement, Sony will handle distribution, replication, inventory management, shipping and accounts receivable for Criterion.

David Bishop, president of SPHE, said Criterion’s 30-year legacy of delivering important classic and contemporary films into the home entertainment market is buttressed by the exacting standards each Blu-ray Disc and DVD release must meet.

“This is why SPHE is honored that Criterion has chosen to partner with us to ensure its future legacy by duplicating and efficiently distributing products equal to the high standards it demands,” Bishop said.

The Criterion Collection features more than 150 movies. Each film is presented uncut, in its original aspect ratio, as its filmmaker intended it to be seen. Criterion uses state-of-the-art telecine equipment and select colorists during the film-to-video digital transfer, according to CEO Jonathan Turell.

Whenever possible, Criterion works with the original directors and cinematographers to ensure that the look of the releases does justice to their intentions.

Turell said Criterion’s bonus material enables viewers to appreciate the films in context, through audio commentaries by filmmakers and scholars, restored director’s cuts, deleted scenes, documentaries, shooting scripts, early shorts and storyboards.

“We’re proud to release many great films from Sony’s library in Criterion and very much look forward to continuing our long relationship,” Turell said. “We think they are an ideal partner as we look forward to expanding our direct relationships with our key customers.”

I was wondering..
Why not a single Katherine Hepburn release from Criterion?
Doesn't Criterion think highly of her films?

I wonder whether "Criterion uses state-of-the-art telecine equipment" is true, in general. For example, they often use a studio master. Do they mean to say, in those cases, that the studio uses state-of-the-art equipment?

edit: "Key customers" may be distributors, I suppose, like Image was its distributor.
