Default Packaging

Has anyone seen the packaging for the 2D version of the film yet? Is it a nice foldout booklet like the old Extended Editions were (I think I saw something online about this for the DVD version, but not the Blu-Ray) or is it just a slipcover with all 3 discs in a regular clear blue Blu-Ray case? I really loved the packaging of the original Extended Editions back in the DVD days.

So is Best Buy only stocking the Steelbook 3D version or do they have the regular 3D version too?

For those of us looking for just the 2D version, is the following information correct?

1) Target doesn't seem to have them listed online, and in-store may or may not be available...
2) Best Buy has it for $24.99 - 3 disc (movie, appendices 7, and appendices 8) + UV
3) Walmart has it for $19.98 - Packaging online *seems* to be the same as Best Buy, but there isn't any mention as to if it is the same 3 disc set at BB. It does come with UV

So if the Walmart one is the same as the BB one, then it is either buy at WM or try to price match at BB...

Any anyone confirm #1, #2, and/or #3 above?

was that a select store thing - because I thought it was odd at opening this morning my Best Buy only had three steelbooks.

Does anyone know where I could buy a three disc black BD case? The one I received had one of the holders that keeps the flip holder locked.

Just a guess here, and based on what the titles say on WM's website, I believe the 3D WM exclusive is just the " 3D Blu-ray + UltraViolet" with no 2D version or special features disc. Additionally, and based on the price of the 2D WM exclusive ($19.96), I bet this is only the " Blu-ray + UltraViolet" with the special features only found on the movie disc itself and no special features disc.

I'm willing to sell off my special features discs from the BB steel for anyone who is interested. since I'm also getting the 2D extended cut separately and having two copies of the special features is a tad redundant.

Well, it looks like the 5-disc standard version at Best Buy is online only and they will not price match it. They're selling it for $60 online and they told me the best they could do would be $50. I have no idea why they won't price match it, but whatever. I just ordered it from Amazon.

I preferred to use my Best Buy gift card, but after spending 10 minutes just trying to talk to a person using Best Buy's simply TERRIBLE automated phone system, I'd rather just hand my money over to Amazon anyway.

So, is it definitely confirmed that there is no 2D BD in the steelie?

Just picked up the 2D EE from best buy, one of only 2 I saw displayed. Was able to price match wal-mart's 19.96 price and use the $5 mystery rewards certificate to get it for 14.96+tax.

Not crazy about the movie, I suspect I'll like it better once the entire project is complete. Went ahead and ordered the 5-disc extended 3D set from Amazon. $29 was a great price, glad I waited.

Most likely! However, two of those select Best Buy stores in my city did a midnight release and both had "The Hobbit" on display. The steelbooks were kept at customer service, though. Therefore, those were probably being put on hold for people that pre-ordered the movie. I didn't pre-order. I simply asked the associate if I could just get the Steelbook. He asked if I wanted to price match as well, but being the honest person that I am, I said no because it was a Best Buy exclusive. Hoping good karma comes my way. Lol I must admit, though, this is the pricest Steelbook I've ever bought. It looks cool, though, and it will match my LOTR Steelbook collection.
