I just got a nice lady at the local Wal-Mart to pull a 2D/3 Disc edition for me so I can pick it up tomorrow. They only had 3 or 4 left. Does anyone know why the Wal-Mart.com page says "Walmart Exclusive"? I thought there were no retailer exclusives. The picture doesn't look any different from other sites and the lady said she didn't see any "Exclusive" sticker.

Usually for big releases both Walmart and Best Buy have a big display in front of the store. Neither did. 1. Best Buy just had The Hobbit and White House Down along with other recent titles in this circular bluray display. They were both kind of buried 2. Walmart did have a standee with the titles in the electronics dept. Both only had a few 3Ds out. What was prominently displayed in both stores was Call Of Duty video game. HUGE! I think since the Hobbit was a second release and WHD was not a huge blockbuster there wasn't the same push to display like Iron Man or Monsters U. |

Just finished watching my copy. I mostly enjoyed it. The extended scenes don't help it as much as the do the other movies, but I still liked it a bit more than the theatrical cut. The only extra parts I could do without were the goblin song (wasn't bad, it just felt out of place) and the dwarves bathing in Rivendell. I can't wait to watch all of the bonus features now.

The walmart in my area had a ton of the 2D EE, and one copy of the 3D EE left on all the shelves. Just not that big of a fan of the 3D stuff to warrant the extra $10 purchase price, even though I do own a 3D TV, just do not have glasses.. yet.

The Blu-ray picture quality of the Extended Edition is not as good as the theatrical release, there's more noticeable decompression in the image than the previous release. With the short New Zealand documentary and the animated menu of Bag End taking up disc space, the film file is easily under the 50 GB of disc space.

I'm halfway through the film-maker commentary and its very good. They don't waste time listening or go off topic, just give tons of info about what you're seeing.
Though imo, Jackson and Boyens struggled with explaining the unexpected Azog plot. I completely disagree with their belief such a character was needed instead of his son, Bolg. And Jackson fesses up about the 'silly old stick insect' and ear smoke. PJ, you should listen to your staff when they tell you it's ridiculous. ![]() |

Agreed, I saw the Hobbit in IMAX 3D, and it was basically worthless. The 2D version plays much better.
