Is this worth watching? I'm super picky on what I see in theaters but am way more accepting of purchasing a Blu-ray. (IMAX3D is $13 and a Blu-ray is usually $10-15 after I sell the extras).

Some of the recent movies I've seen...in IMAX and in order of my liking:

Gravity
Man of Steel
Pacific Rim
Star Trek Into Darkness
Oblivion
Elysium
Riddick

How much does this movie exercise the audio system? Is it truly worth the trip to IMAX 3D?

This is more like OBLIVION (feels like a 70's sci-fi in that it doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator)... it has a good pace (you can tell they are trying to keep as much of the book in the movie as possible) but it never feels rushed. The acting is EXCELLENT, as well as the FX. Lots of expansive shots that deal with zero G environments, so this might be perfect for Imax viewing.

Of that list STID is the only one I would recommend IMAX for because it is the only one partially shot in IMAX... Ender's Game was not shot in IMAX at all and is not in 3D. I hate conversions to IMAX (and to a lesser extent, 3D). That being said, seeing this on a regular screen should be cheaper, and is what I will be doing.

As for the movie itself, it looks very good to me, I like what I have been hearing from Ben Kingsley, Harrison Ford, Haley Steinfeld, and Asa in interviews/talk shows and all the clips have been interesting.

What is it you dislike about IMAX conversions? Every single IMAX theatrical movie ever released is converted. Even the longest theatrical film shot on actual IMAX cameras, The Dark Knight Rises, has only 72 minutes of true IMAX footage (which is massively more than anything else), the rest was converted.

Only you will know if you will like it or not. If you're interested, see it. Based on the list above, I would say yes, give it a chance. I saw it yesterday in my local Showcase and I enjoyed it a lot. Excellent cast and acting, great dialog, and fantastic visuals. It kept me involved throughout. I do understand being careful what you pay for in theatres - I'm the same way actually. For the cost of 2 tickets we could just own the blu-ray. I make exceptions for some films. I saw Gravity and Pacific Rim in theatres, both in 3D, and I'm glad I went, and I feel the same for this one. I'm sorry I missed Oblivion, Elysium, Man of Steel and Star Trek in the theatre. I just can't afford to see them all in the theatre.

Saw this today and was kind of 'meh' on it. Didn't help that I watched Man of Steel the night before.

I thought Ender's Game felt a bit rushed, perhaps it would have been better as 2 movies...I dunno.

This is the first movie I've seen in the theaters that I actually question if I want to buy it....it just didn't 'grab' me.

I'm boycotting this movie because of Orson Scott Card's homophobic and anti-gay positions

Do you boycott movies that use equipment built by companies who profit from war? Or ones that portray police brutality and government spying in a positive light?

lol, my thoughts exactly. If I boycotted every movie that had a director I didn't agree with I'd probably never see a movie
