He was also great in Queen of Spades. I don't think that's available on BD yet.

In the 'original' version of Gaslight Walbrook is so much better than Boyer that you'll wonder why you had not seen the film before. All I have at present (while awaiting my pre-ordered BD) is a scratchy old home-recorded VHS of the film. If you do get the BFI BD, keep it carefully in case an MGM agent comes calling (as they said in MovieMail)

I won't make comparisons but speaking for myself, I am not too keen on the typical Nordic female looks. I prefer something more dusky.....

Yeah she's beautiful and all that, but not my thing. Certainly not what I would call 'definitive beauty'. I mean, if I were alive around her time i'd have proper banged her like, but I can think of plenty of other women i'd do before her.

I actually didn't like Noomi from a physical attractive perspective in the 'Girl Who' trilogy. The whole punk rocker emo thing doesn't really do it for me mate, she looks fittest when she's herself, you get me?

Like in Prometheus, shite film that it is, she looks proper fit. Same in Passion, she looks the dog's bollocks. Theres just something about her.

^What? I'm not taking the piss mate, I did compliment her after all. I said I wouldn't say no, did I not? I agree that she was an attractive woman, it's just there are fitter birds I would rather go for, that's all.

Point is, you could have said this instead of "I'd bang her but there are other women I'd do before her."

For instance : "I agree she was an attractive woman, but there are other actresses which I found to be more in my tastes".

Well, you could have just answered by a sarcastic smiley in the first place.

Lol, I could have, but I wanted to be a little extra spicy! But really though, she is attractive and I didn't mean to sound crass, but there are other women I think should be held in higher regard. Juliette Binoche is fine too. She actually looks more and more curvy everytime I see her. She's proper beautiful too. Same as Sofia Vergara. Look at the hips on that woman. Amazing.

theprestige85, I guess few people around here are interested in your misogynistic gibberish. At least I am not.

Anyway. Back to films.

It looks like BFI have cancelled their releases of Journey to Italy & Stromboli. There's no longer a release date on Amazon for them. They've disappeared from Moviemail and the BFI store.

Perhaps they'll do a boxset like Criterion and include Europe '51

Then again, BFI release dates are so open to change, that it can be hard to keep track of when they are releasing something. The Bill Morrison collection was supposed to have been out by now, but that has been delayed to some time next year

I've noticed also that Successive Slidings Of Pleasure and Trans-Europ-Express also have no release dates so thats four releases which have either been cancelled or inextricably delayed

Maybe they've decided to go down the box set route a la Criterion? Hopefully if they do it will include some of the other Rossellini/Bergman collaborations

Just so long as they don't turn them into Zavvi exclusive Steelbook releases. I can't imagine them being likely candidates though, thankfully.

I thought that might be the case. I checked over on Criterion Forums, but I couldn't find any news over there, and it's hard to find out why these titles have been delayed

A listing at Base shows a release date of 31 January: http://www.base.com/buy/product/jour...c-bfib1151.htm

Good things are worth waiting for.

edit: Stromboli on the same date - http://www.base.com/buy/product/stro...c-bfib1150.htm

I was thinking that(well hoping), but BFI have made no mention of Europa '51 at all so far.

I'm getting pretty tempted to just import the Criterion set during this current B&N sale.
