Default Seven cool NBC character posters from SDCC w/Dracula trailer

In the spirit of San Diego Comic Con overkill, NBC dropped seven character posters on us this afternoon. Come on in and get an up close and personal look at the cast of this vampiric drama.

Dracula
Quote:
Much like Warners’ Godzilla fun, NBC built their own “Dracula” experience, which features Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the titular character. Evan Dickson took the tour, and was pretty impressed with the 2-minute video featuring the “rebirth” of the infamous vamp. Watch the videos inside, and check out a few pics of the structure. Comic-Con is NUTS.

The series, which bypassed the traditional pilot stage, takes place in the 1890s and finds Dracula (“The Tudors’” Jonathan Rhys Meyers) living a double life in London as an American businessman interested in bringing modern science to Victorian society. But his true plan — to exact revenge on those who burdened him centuries ago — is derailed when he falls in love with Mina (“Arrow”‘s Jessica DeGouw), who seems to be a reincarnation of his dead wife. Van Helsing (Thomas Kretschmann) is a brilliant professor obsessed with revenge and power. He may be a greater threat to the public than the titular count. Katie McGrath and Nonso Anozie also star.

“Dracula,” a co-production from British Sky Broadcasting, Carnival Films & Television, Flame Ventures and NBCUniversal, hails from Tony Krantz (“24,” “Sports Night”) and former HBO Films president Colin Callender and writer-creator Cole Haddon (who will co-exec produce).

NBC plans to air Dracula in the fall of 2013

I like the pairing.

Grimm has suffered from being paired with a lot of crappy show over its past two years.

I'll likely check this out because I love the Dracula novel, but I'm expecting the worst. I usually hate these revamps of the character.

Default SDCC 2013: new Trailer for NBC's Dracula Rises from the Tomb

Quote:
Along with bringing a piece of Dracula's castle to San Diego for Comic-Con, NBC also released a new music video style trailer for its upcoming reimagined "Dracula" TV series during the show. Check it out here!

Synopsis:
Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Meyers ("The Tudors") stars in this provocative new one-hour drama as one of the world's most iconic characters. It's the late 19th century, and the mysterious Dracula has arrived in London, posing as an American entrepreneur who wants to bring modern science to Victorian society. He's especially interested in the new technology of electricity, which promises to brighten the night - useful for someone who avoids the sun. But he has another reason for his travels: He hopes to take revenge on those who cursed him with immortality centuries earlier. Everything seems to be going according to plan... until he becomes infatuated with a woman who appears to be a reincarnation of his dead wife.

Quote:
From the producers of the critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning hit "Downton Abbey" comes "Dracula," a twisted, sophisticated, and sexy take on Bram Stoker's classic novel, proving that some stories never die.

Along with Meyers as Dracula/Alexander Grayson/Vlad Tepes, the other cast members include Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Jonathan Harker, Jessica De Gouw as Mina Murray/Ilona, Thomas Kretschmann as Abraham Van Helsing, Katie McGrath as Lucy Westenra, Nonso Anozie as R.M. Renfield, Victoria Smurfit as Lady Jayne Wetherby, Ben Miles as Mr. Browning, and Robert Bathurst as Lord Thomas Davenport.

The 10-episode series is paired with "Grimm" on Friday nights and will premiere at 10PM on October 25th.

This is mainly a Dracula thread but NBC unveiled the season 3 Grimm poster today and it looks like the show is taking a darker turn. Can't wait. Both Grimm and Dracula should be very good.

I watched the first episode. I guess I had enough time to get over it being a completely different take on the character.

Wasn't bad. The production design looks quite pretty at least. Didn't care much for Dracula's scheme of introducing alternative sources of energy to 18th century London to reduce dependence on oil. Seems too modern. And of course all the oil barons happen to be the ones he seeks revenge on.

Well, yeah, that's kind of the point. He isn't introducing an alternative energy source, and it just happens by coincidence that the group he's after will be the ones impacted by a move away from oil.

He's introducing the alternative energy source because the group he's trying to destroy will be impacted by it. That's one of the ways he's going after them.

Anyway...

I'm liking this more than I expected to. A good part of it is the production design and direction. The show oozes Gothic. It doesn't hurt that the showrunner was the man behind Carnivalè.

Of this season's new shows that I've been watching, this is by far the best. I could do without the Matrix-y slo-mo that pops up now and then, though.
