'There Will Be Blood' was the best movie that I saw from 2007. Daniel Day-Lewis gave a performance for the ages, and I was completely captivated from beginning to end. This movie has a relentless intensity that is taken through a minimalist approach, and to me personally, it really works here. The cinematography, musical score, and minimal dialogue all add to the intrigue, that's why when Daniel Day-Lewis delivers some crisp and poignant lines, it resonated within me. You'll notice instances in the movie when some of these elements are absent, so when they do spring back into being, the movie becomes alive again and leaps off the screen.

I'll have to say that this film isn't for everyone, and that if you didn't like a movie such as 'Citizen Kane', chances are that you won't be fond of this one either. Plainview's (DDL character in the movie) enemies are man and God, and I imagine that also doesn't sit very well with some people. It can be quite disturbing in some of the instances of this film, and sometimes a provocative subject such as that can ultimately put people off.

This is the type of film that requires more than one viewing in my opinion, as there's so many dynamic elements taking place throughout the run time of this movie. The pictorial edge and historical sweep alone, make this a film of beauty - add to that a Daniel Day-Lewis performance for the ages, and you have a masterpiece. This movie is like a ticking time bomb, that when it reached the climax, it was like I had just ran in a marathon. The construction of the tension built throughout the movie by Paul Thomas Anderson is quite palpable, which is ironic, in the sense that it reminded me of drilled oil about to burst.

This is one of the best movies that I've seen in a long, long time. I disagree with many of the opinions here, but hey, if everyone agreed about the same things we'd live in a rather dull and dreary world.

There Will Be Blood!
