the DVD case is so nice I'd still have to hold onto that copy.
Paul Schrader mentioned in an interview that they are going to upgrade it when they sell out of current stock. I posted a link when the interview first happened, but I don't remember when that was.

It'd be great if they include Mishima's Patriotism on the blu.

I watched Le Samourai for the first time yesterday. If ever there was a film that merits multiple viewings despite the fact that so little seems to happen, this may be it.

I am a bit on the fence as to how I felt about it. I am wavering between the idea that a subsequent viewing would enhance my appreciation for the film and the thought that, maybe, what you see is what you get and that the Alain Delon character (Jef Costello) really isn’t too interesting. The only part of the film that struck me as truly special was
[Show spoiler]the initial police lineup call and interrogation. After that, there sure is a lot of time spent showing Jef walking around town and fiddling with a thousand keys.

So, it was not what I expected, but that is perhaps a good thing. I’m leaning toward the idea that I’d like it more the second time around. For now, however, I’d definitely place Le Deuxiemme Souffle and Le Cercle Rouge higher on my list of Melville films.

It wouldn't be a stretch to call Melville's films the cinema of glance and gesture.

to quote myself from two weeks ago.. "I love it any time a filmmaker can tell his story without dialogue." I am also fairly immune to the idea of any film being "too slow." The appeal of Le Samourai, however, seems to be in its style and not its substance. Le Deuxiemme Souffle had a few sequences that were sans dialogue or with minimal dialogue and they just worked for me a whole lot better.

Technically, there will still be some blu-ray only releases. For example, Grey Gardens is not a dual format release.

That's because it was already released on DVD, any titles that are new to the collection will be dual format.

Anyone get mass delays on their orders? I placed them day it started, only two have shipped rest were delayed. Got a ton of emails today saying they needed my permission to wait up to 30 days or they'll have to cancel them

....even though every single one still says ships within 24 hours on page

Did you use the $5/50 in-store or online? I can't get it to work online, and it says "not valid at Barnes & Noble retail stores or Barnes & Noble College retail bookstores."

That is true, but my point was that not every future release will be dual format.

All in-store.

I don't even try buying online anymore on B&N because I can't ever get any coupons to work.

Yeah, I think the coupons are useless online (and, technically, should be in-store). It's because the coupon's fine print forbids its use for things already on sale. I tried online with a member 20% discount coupon, which the e-mail claimed was good for any item other than NOOK items, but it was refused for Russian Ark and a Criterion title. You can see the fine print after they refuse the code - it's clause 5 or 6.

All right, I just reserved this at my library to see what all the fuss is about. I remember reading a few reviews that were not too enthusiastic (for the film itself, not the transfer).

If the item isn't something that the website specifically states is not eligible for a coupon (Criterion) or something on pre-order (Russian Ark), then coupons work fine. I use them all the time.

It's amazing how B&N is so strict with coupons used online and yet so many people get away with it in-stores. Hopefully they won't get strict about it in-store because I've been enjoying these sales over the years and saving even more with additional discounts.

I ordered 3 Films by Rossellini on the Tuesday the sale started (even got the $39.99 price plus a coupon honored) and received it the next day! I'm pretty sure that's the first time I got a Barnes order in one day.

I wonder whether the salespeople accepting the coupons get in trouble.
