The best werewolf films I've seen since 1980 in no particular order
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Bad Moon (1996)
Silver Bullet (1985)
Dog Soldiers (2002)
Ginger Snaps (2000)
Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed (2004)
The Howling (1981)
Big Bad Wolf (2006)

Underworld (2003)
Underworld: Evolution (2006)
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)

Btw, anyone seen the 2011 Spanish werewolf film Game of Werewolves? It's supposed to be pretty decent but is yet to get a US release. It is available on blu in the UK though.
No Wolfen? It isn't a werewolf movie in the general sense but still…

I truly don't remember "Ginger Snaps" being that good at all.
Again, it's all a matter of opinion. You're not a fan of the films. Fair enough. Both films do have a following that would consider them cult classics, however (especially in the case of Ginger Snaps), and will certainly be looking forward to these releases. Going so far as to say it devalues or ruins the whole CE line is rather melodramatic. Like I said before, I love Criterion, and am not going to claim that their line has any less "merit" because they put out Border Radio...

If the Kangaroo Channel billed the movie as a "Kangaroo Channel Original Movie", then yes it does.

Maybe not in other countries where it was released differently, but here in the US (where Scream Factory is based), Dog Soldiers is a SyFy Channel movie.

Haven't seen it and haven't heard too many positive things about it. May give it a look at some point though.

Well, I'm not sure who you've been listening to - the film has a perfectly solid 6.2 rating on IMDB - but Wolfen is very much worth watching. Its socio-ecological themes, which could have been heavy-handed if handled less inventively, are conveyed instead with a stylish visual flair that makes for a fascinating fusion of counterculture dissent (Michael Wadleigh was and is an activist whose only other directorial credit is, appropriately enough, Woodstock) and gory entertainment.

"Wolfen" deserves a "Collector's Edition" release way before either of the said films getting one. I'm sure it was a rights issue though or some kind of bullspit.

Plus it stars the dependably defiant Albert Finney, looking a bit bloated and several decades and pints away from his Angry Young Man days, but still a wonderfully fiery screen presence - a rumpled rake, if you will.

It's a WB release and they don't license - roughly a decade ago, a special edition was announced for a DVD with a Wadleigh commentary, but it never came to pass. The bare-bones snapper is now OOP, so I suppose there's a slight possibility of a Criterion release, but it seems unlikely.

The same went for In the Mouth of Madness. It now has a BD release.

Wolfen's not completely OOP. It's still available as part of a 4-pack with Bad Moon, Coma and Body Snatchers.

Warner's typically good for about 3 - 5 back catalog horror releases every October. We got a little more than usual this year thanks to the F13 Boxset. Problem is, they've got dozens of desirable titles from all eras sitting in their archives (not including Paramount's archives, either), and that might be an understatement. Who knows where Wolfen lies in their list of priorities?

The best reason I can come up with for Criterion going after it is because they wanted to have Allison Anders represented in their line and they couldn't get a hold of Gas Food Lodging. Out of all the Criterion films I've watched, it was the most difficult one I've attempted to sit through, just due to the film's quality alone...

So do you guys think I should pass on Eve until it goes lower (maybe later on in the year) or is it worthy to pick up as well?

Jeff posted this on FaceBook:
Regarding Ginger Snaps and possibly other films in the line.

Looking into sequels will all depend on sales for the first one.

Everyone that has commented on your initial post regarding this has said that you should pass on Eve. Wait for it.

Wolfen is a piece of crap and I HATE when people call it a werewolf movie when it's not at all.

Saw "Wolfen" when i was young and found it quite dull but i think certain types of horror films were lost on me at that age and its one i've been wanting to check out again.
