They really do have a completely different feel. Blue is probably the "better" film once you dig a little deeper...but on the surface I enjoyed White more. It has a great sense of humor.

on that note, I saw Au Revoir Les Enfants this weekend. just a fantastic film! very accessible film about friendship between 2 boys at a Catholic boarding school in France during World War II. it is about more than that, but I'd rather not say. highly recommended though! one of my pals here on this site, JW, has been into Louis Malle recently. this was a good place for me to start! |

So I picked up Frances Ha and City Lights today.
Also am pretty stoked that I pre-paid for Zatoichi box using the 50% sale and my 20% off coupon that came in the mail. Total came to $89.99. I guess because it was a pre-pay using their online system I didn't get the additional 10% Member discount. But since I will be out of town all next week, I wouldn't be able to buy it in a store during the sale period anyways. Still am very happy with the deal I got... and to let you guys know that its possible to use the coupon. That gets me completely up to do on all criterion blu-rays! Go me! |

I'm inclined to call Three Colors: White my favorite of the Trilogy, followed by Red, and lastly Blue.

Agreed and that is why it's my favorite of the three. It's not all humor though - it does have a lot of impact.

I've got Malle's Elevator to the Gallows out from the library right now. He's got quite a few that sound really good!

So I was going through my dvd collection to watch some films I haven't seen recently and came across The Committments. I love this film, love the actors, the music, the story... that being said, even with all the cool features my dvd has, I think Criterion could do something really great with this (if they are able to, not sure they have rights).
On a separate note, I was searching ebay for Criterion LaserDiscs, I had no idea there were so many. May have to spend a little cash on ebay for some of those that aren't in dvd or blu-ray print. I found it interesting there was a Dr. No release, that was recalled for what seemed to be comments in the commentary that Broccoli didn't like. Just thought it was interesting. Not BD related, but finished the Bail Deardon's London Underground Eclipse set and really enjoyed all 4 movies. Even though it seems to be the least talked about, I think All Night Long was my favorite. I saw lots of praise for Victim and it didn't disappoint either!

Of the Malle movies that I have seen, Elevator to the Gallows is probably my favorite. Every month I hope they announce an upgrade. It would be worth it for the soundtrack alone.
