You can just pop the R1 button out with a butterknife (trust me it pops out easily), then clean out the inside with canned air or heavy blowing and a q tip (I used a little rubbing alcohol). Mine hasn't stuck again since i did this a week or so ago.

I'm not having problems, but man, a brand new controller should not need to be cleaned out. My DS3's never needed to be cleaned inside. The rims around the sticks wore out before anything else happened to them.
