That is quite surprising to me, perfect place to split it for non-book readers and it's close to the middle of the book so they'd still have about half the book left for the final film. Not to mention after the events of the first 3 films it would catch a lot of people by surprise and leave them itching to see the 4th film ASAP.

New set photos in Atlanta at the Marriott Marquis. Looks like a victor memorial?

It sure does, not sure if that's from the book or not but I know I will be reading the book at least once more before the movie comes out.

Throw my hat into the discussion.

[Show spoiler]I don't think they'll end the movie as Peeta is strangling Katniss because even a cliffhanger needs enough resolution to not piss people off. It'd be like ending Empire Strikes Back right when Han gets frozen or the Death Hallows right when Dobby gets stabbed. You actually needed something conclusive to set up the next movie, not end in the middle of a scene.

Now if the cliff hanger is going to be about Peeta, it's going to be not long after they rescue him and end it with the implication that he is quite the old Peeta. Then the sequel can open up with him snapping and trying to strangle Katniss.

Didn't realize you cared so much about Peeta Mallark, to me he comes off as weak and a tool of the Capitol, something you also get from the way Katniss feels about him during the first two books/films.

They could always include the epilogue at the end of the movie for a short of "resolution".

Interesting set pictures. I don't think this victor's hall (?) was in the book. But it looks good to me.

There's a lot of people who like the character well enough. I'm just saying that ending a movie in the middle of a scene would not work because it would piss people off more than leaving them wanting more. Even a cliffhanger needs to tie up some loose ends.

It's the end of a chapter so I think it's fine and it would be the most logical point in the first Mockingjay film to fade out but it's not up to me. They might not want to end it in a manner similar to Catching Fire though so I can see why they don't want that to be the final scene.

Someone recorded them filming a short action sequence at the hotel via Instagram video.
It seems like it could very well be
[Show spoiler]a rescue mission for Peeta at the Capitol

Many people have issues with how it ends. I think the book provides the most logical way this story could have ended. Absolutely perfect.
[Show spoiler]Sad, but beautiful. It gives us new hope.

Now, having said that, I don't think 2 movies are necessary in order to tell this story in grand fashion. A 2 1/2 hour movie would do just fine imo. I think the split will happen either when:

[Show spoiler]1) Peeta strangles Katniss
2) Katniss gets shot
3) Prim dies

They need new story elements and characters to make this whole "2 movies thing" work. But I hope they don't screw it up with lame and unnecessary stuff, that doesn't make any sense at all. Here's hoping for a grand finale!
Yes but with a 2 1/2 hour conclusion theyd have to come to ur seat at an hour and 15 minutes and ask for more money.

I'd pay $20 right now to see both movies even though since it's after 8 there's a 100% chance I'd fall asleep during the second film. Will probably have to settle for going to late showing of Catching Fire, going to shower right now so I don't have to do it when I get back.

What an odd decision to split the final book of a popular series into two movies. If this proves to be successful, it could catch on!

Odd to see someone sad that we're going to get another Katniss Everdeen film, although I'm not sure how fun they will be to watch without scenes from the Games.

Not a new strategy... Harry Potter & Twilight beat them to it. They are simply following a profitable trend that has already proven successful.

I am not sad that we get another Katniss Everdeen movie. I am sad that Hollywood follows that trend with every popular book franchise. That's what it feels like anyway. They don't think about quality. They think about boxoffice. All I can hope for is that Mockingjay 1 & 2 will have the same epic feel as Kill Bill. I want to get the impression that 2 movies were indeed necessary to make the best possible adaption.

What's Harry Potter & Twilight? I've never heard of it. Is it any good?

In case you didn't catch it, that was sarcasm.

[Show spoiler]Have you read the books? Peeta is very skilled at hiding his feelings and acting toward an ulterior motive (as well as public speeches).
It has been hinted at during the movies, but is far more developped in the books. In particular, the bread sequence has been criminally treated in the first film if memory serves.
In reality, Peeta has very strong feelings about the way the Capitol treats the people in the Districts (but may be too much of a "realist" to think about doing something about it, contrarily to Katniss), but above all he worships Katniss so much that he not only would give his life in a heartbeat for her, he would pretty much do anything, including killing other people. In that regard, he is much less wishy washy than Katniss.
He is imo the best character of the series imo, and sadly was very understated in the movies to put Katniss front and center alone to the point that in trailers it almost became "The Katniss Games". I was glad to see that Peeta was still featured somewhat decently in the movie .

This being said, do not get me wrong, I like Katniss a lot and I think J. Lawrence did a terrific job with her.
