On the Waterfront is my personal favorite Criterion release of the year as well, although the 20th Century Fox Blu-ray of Laura is probably my favorite overall release of the year. Those two and the Olive Blu-ray of The Enforcer are my top three, and they're pretty much neck in neck with one another.

I'm glad to see that another person appreciates the Olive Films release of Les Miserables as well. That is, by far, my favorite film version of the Hugo novel that I've seen, and the presentation is beautiful.

I like the way you think. Been checking out Joon-ho Bong's movies lately (watched Mother last night – fantastic), and I'd love to see Memories of Murder get a US blu-ray release; I think the Korean blu-ray is out of print even.

And Ikiru is probably the best film they own, so it's sad they haven't put it out on blu-ray yet. I'd kill for more frequent Kurosawa upgrades in general – hopefully Throne of Blood doesn't mean we can't expect another until 20-bloody-15.

1- memories of murder.. the bluray got a reprint a while ago. i orderedmyself two weeks ago a copy for ~22$. with eng subs, so i dont think we need a criterion release for a english friendly region A Release thats already avaible.


2. ikiru on the other hand would be a nice bluray upgrade.

How is it you find out the first film announced via the Criterion site? Go to the last film spine and wait for Spine #701 to show along with a name??

Just click on "coming soon" on the main page of Criterion.com. Currently, that will yield 14 results. If you refresh that page and the number jumps to 20 or so, you'll be able to see all the newly announced releases at the bottom.
