Yeah, the Persona cover is awfully good. I could see it being 'tie-breaker good' down the road. It's not unheard of for me to be in a B&N thinking 'should I or shouldn't I' nor is it unheard of for an interesting cover to put me over the edge.
In fact, I think that might have happened with The Magician. |

And once again, Criterion appears to be allergic to Korean cinema. Hmm. At least February has another Hitchcock film! ![]() Can someone explain to me why everyone is spazzing out at the Persona cover? ![]() |

Lol. Don't know about spazzing per se, but it's rather striking. Its high contrast (negative and positive spaces at play), looks like the old lamp/faces image angled outward, two females, slightly sexy and kind of dramatic...did she just whisper something, is she about to whisper something?

I am quite excited about the Bergman and Kurosawa releases. I don't quite understand the disappointment out there... "another Kurosawa?!? Boo!"
Yea... He's only one the towering figures in world cinema. Granted, I'm always down for more 'under the radar' titles, but this month's announcements are nothing to whine about. |

Time to tidy up the "to buy" list. These are films I definitely will buy:
Paths of Glory Early Summer Summer Hours The Double Life of Veronique *Monsieur Verdoux *The Gold Rush Qatsi Trilogy Foreign Correspondent – February 2014 The Great Beauty – March 2014 * open to suggestions as to which one I buy first. Films that I like the look of, from the write-up / previous comments seen here etc, but I'm not 100% certain. In no particular order: Night Train to Munich Eyes Without A Face The Big City The Uninvited The Testament of Dr Mabuse Tokyo Drifter Branded to Kill Blow Out Vagabond My Man Godfrey The Cranes Are Flying Sullivan’s Travels 49th Parallel The Forgiveness of Blood I Married A Witch Hopscotch Any suggestions are greatly received ![]() |

The Great Beauty interests me. Is it felliniesque? Is it the successor to La Dolce Vita?
The "restoration" of Rashomon was disappointing, so I'll be careful about buying Throne of Blood. I've bought several Kurosawas and sold them all except Yojimbo and Seven Samurai, and I only keep Seven Samurai around in case a visitor wants to see it. Bergman is irritating. For example, The Magician was really good until [Show spoiler]
