The most telling thing though is that Sony has decided films like Oliver (6 Oscars including Best Picture), As Good As It Gets (Oscars for Best Actor & Actress), The Way We Were (Two Oscars, #5 at the Box Office in 1973, starring Barbra Streisand whose fan base is pretty rabid), aren't even worth their own time and effort to release, instead choosing to licence it to a company for three years in a limited number. Bear in mind that Sony was one of the companies that originally developed the format.
Funny you mentioned those three titles as Sony did bother to release those international but they've just gotten lazy here in the States.

exactly.
Sony IS releasing the "big" films themselves--just not in the US, where they have allowed TT to buy the distribution rights for a fee.
Now would some of these titles sell more than 3000 copies in the US? I would think so.
but many others would not.
so in the end it is what it is imo.

And a salient fact is this: they're basciLly releasing films that otherwise wouldn't be seeing the light of day on this format. So yeah you should be happy we're getting it at all.
"Thank you sir, may I have another". Or maybe, since TT released "Oliver" here in the States, we should walk up to Nick Redman with our blu-ray players in hand and say "Please Sir, I want some more".

Because I like the company and want to show support so they stick around. Yes, I probably am crazy.

I'm not a whinger and not a complainer which is why I rarely post in threads but this last couple of months dealing with TT and SAE has put me in a bit of a sour mood and while I do support them wholeheartedly, I think it's more than fair to give them criticism for the things they don't get right (customer service, communication).

If you think it's unhealthy to give constructive criticism, then you're beyond help :P
You're right, and I have offered my constructive criticism in the past and those comments still stand. It's just that with each round of orders or pre-orders, shipping notice delays lead to subsequent complains about the business model, or announcements of new titles leads to complaints from people upset about studios licencing the titles out in limited numbers. It's all been hashed out before.

I used those three titles because Brad1107 used those examples. There are plenty of other high-profile titles that haven't received international releases. But you're right about Sony in North America, they've slowed almost all older titles to a slow trickle.

If Sony has learned anything from Twilight Time, it would be that horror and sci-fi titles sell, chick flicks and musicals do not.

finally got my two Sinbad films today.

I might as well give my two cents worth..... I buy Twilight Time releases. Certainly not all of them. I currently own 18. There has been a lot of conversation about Twilight Time's business model.... about the price they charge for their Blu-ray releases... and on and on. I love movies and will purchase the movies that I want to own. So this is the bottom line... if you want it and believe the value is fair.. then buy it... if not, then you do not have to buy it. All the praises or criticism is not going to change the situation. As my good friend Arkadin said.... It is what it is.

Good for you!

I *thought* I was going to get my Sinbads today too, as that's what my projected delivery date was. BUT (... there's always a but) ... for some odd reason, the "shipping powers that be" decided to send my package 40 or 50 miles in the opposite direction from where I live, after sitting idle in a Post Office 30 miles from me since 2:00 last Friday afternoon. How screwy is that! Who knows what path my package will take now. All I know is that it's late, when it could have conceivably been delivered to me last Saturday. It will be fun to watch the tracker on this one (NOT).

EDIT: FWIW, I received my first shipping notice on December 9th.

It's going on a little voyage of its own.

Mine left the seller facility on December 6th. The tracking info was updated earlier this morning to say that it left the U.S. on December 14th, so who knows where it is now in the intervening three days.

It used to be pretty simple to track the shipments from Virginia to Canada, now not so much it seems. Oh, well, it'll get here eventually.

I hope that I'm not committing a serious breach of etiquette here, but my region free Australian Blu-ray of Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) arrived in the mail today. I took it for a test drive to skip through a couple of scenes (since I've seen it about a hundred times from childhood to present) and confirmed that it is, indeed, region free playable and good-looking.

It's spelled "Journey to the Centre of the Earth" with the Australian edition, if anyone wants to go looking. It's the Hollywood Gold Series Blu-ray. I paid roughly $25, including shipping.

I have not even been charged yet so I'm not even in the shipping process. At this rate, I won't get my order until after Christmas since the delivery time has increased.

I see they are limiting the Sinbad movies to one blu-ray per order.

Have they released the extras information for the February releases?

P.S. I received a shipping notice shortly after posting the above. My order is now being shipped through priority mail. I have never received items from SA through PM so I wonder if they did this because of the delay.

Your getting Priority? Mine finally shipped yesterday, but mine are that stupid UPS Innovations nonsense.

How long did you wait for the shipping confirmation from the time these started shipping? I ordered 2 more TT titles more than a week ago and still haven't gotten a shipping email. These will be my last TT purchases if it turns into another fiasco.

Despite what I have said in the past about TT I broke down and ordered from them because I had to have the Sinbad films. I also ordered a couple other films I couldn't find locally. So far they are living up to my expectations. I ordered on Dec 5th and they charged my credit card and I am still waiting on them to ship. When I sent an email to ask why I simply got back "waiting on a couple of movies to be in stock" no estimate when they would arrive just that. So far my opinion with them is not improving.

This new shipping method from SAE is really disappointing.

I get a shipping notification on 12/09. The included tracking number takes you to UPS.com which then gives a message something to the effect of "invalid tracking number" for the next 4 days. Then on the 13th it actually gives shipping info on the UPS site for delivery on the 17th. I check again on the 17th since I have no package from SAE and now the tracking number takes me to USPS.com where it says "electronic ship info received." dated on the 16th. I can only assume that I may get the 2 Sinbad films on the 20th. Maybe.

I can understand the need to lower cost but this new shipping method is idiotic. I don't mind paying a premium for limited editions but if this is going to continue then SAE needs to reevaluate their shipping charges. Considering I can get packages sent to me from Hong Kong in 7days or less SAE's shipping solutions is really taking a step backwards.

I'd pay a little more for shipping if they went back to the old way.
