I completely understand that, but at these prices they are limiting their business to collectors. The general public does not pay $20-$25 for movies from the 80's or even current titles for that matter. To me their holiday sale of 20% off MSRP for spending $300 was a joke. Even with the discount their prices were still higher than Family Video. To me that doesn't make sense. The company who produces them can't sell them cheaper than another company when someone is purchasing over $300 worth of merchandise from them? Seriously? Even Criterion back in the day of DVD would give me 50% off if I bought 20 titles at a time from them.

Criterion titles at 50% off now would still be twenty bucks.... quit being a cheapskate and appreciate the fact that these titles are being released...when you look at the scam TWILIGHT TIME has going... these are a bargain!

I agree, and Twilight Time has several titles that I would like to see Scream get a hold of when the rights are available e.g. Fright Night, The Blob (1988), Night of the Living Dead (1990).

Third favorite of the series, behind Clerks 2 and Mallrats.

Agreed. I'm still pissed about them getting Fright Night, Christine and the Night of the Living Dead remake.

Me too. After missing out on several Twilight Time releases I was interested in, I finally bit the bullet and bought the two Sinbad movies they put out. I hate that a company like Twilight Time exists and gets away with what they're doing.

Bastards also have their grubby little hands on The Blob remake.

we can be happy that we actually get such old movies restored with bonus features in HD for such a price.
but for that price i would acutally expect a nice booklet like criterion / arrow do offer.

Ginger Snaps...will it be DNR'd to death or is Shout! going to treat it with the respect it deserves and give it a 5 star treatment?

Really? I don't think they do all that bad. They take time to release titles that otherwise wouldn't see the light of day.

I'm region from the UK which means I can't handle anything region A locked, but I do understand that Shout! have a good reputation and that most of their transfers range from respectable to very good. I mean, their treatment of Prince Of Darkness for example looks great going by the caps I have seen. I just wish they wouldn't region lock us out. Praying Ginger Snaps is one of the few not to be region lock.

^ Somewhat true, here in the UK we've got ARROW which is a label specialising in films very similar to that of Scream and even Criterion releases. There are many films that ARROW have released that Shout! haven't released.

In my opinion Scream Factory mostly do a satisfactory job, I am happy with most of the titles I own from them.

We know. We've heard you. And heard you. And heard you. And heard you...

Three things to make you feel more at ease: (even though you've already heard this)
  1. Scream Factory will probably use whatever HD master currently exists for Ginger Snaps, unless its in the same conditions as something like Dog Soldiers and must be corrected.
  2. They only Region Lock because they are FORCED to by their contracts, in most cases.
  3. They do pretty good jobs, so if they do feel the need to create a new HD master, it will probably look fantastic, the people they use are very highly regarded.

Hopefully now you can buy a Region Free player, and the you'll actually be able to get the Scream Factory disc. Until then, why worry?

I also hope that Ginger Snaps is treated well. However, since it was a very low budget film, I am willing to bet that the quality of the image isn't stunning to begin with.

As far as getting a region free player, anyone who is eyeing releases from another country owes it to themselves big time to buy one. I bought one for less than $100 about two years ago and have never looked back. The total Blu Ray freedom that it has afforded me has paid for the player a hundred times over. Since they can be found for relatively cheap, there really is no excuse not to buy one at this point, especially if you are spendings lots of money on Blu Ray discs regularly.

What are you going to do about it if they do *mess it up* tough guy ?
Just to point out - there is a reason that they have received accolades for best DVD distributor of the year...
Their work has been nothing short of outstanding with their horror titles, the reviews from websites have generally been very positive. I think a ton of members here love what they have done with the titles that they have acquired

I've looked into buying one and I can't find a brand name under $150.00. Even the off brands I've looked into were all over $100. What kind do you have?
