Default Iron Man 2 plot rumors

source

Quote:
Marvel Studios made it official yesterday, announcing that Iron Man 2 is now a sure thing. That means it’s time to start thinking about what direction they’ll go for the sequel, and don’t think for a minute that Marvel doesn’t already have plans.

Tonight I got a message from a long time friend of the site, and one of our most spot on, regular scoopers. She’s had her ears out, and tells us she knows some of the things currently being considered for the next Iron Man movie.

Apparently the Samuel L. Jackson cameo after the credits in Iron Man wasn’t just a throwaway. Our scooper says his Nick Fury character will figure prominently into the next movie. One of the plot lines being pushed for the sequel has Jackson’s Nick Fury character enlisting the help of Tony Stark in going after a terrorist called The Mandarin.

If you know anything about Iron Man outside the movie, then you know that The Mandarin is one of his most notorious villains. The movie actually alludes to him. The terrorist group which captures Tony Stark at the beginning of the film is named “The Ten Rings”, a reference to the ten rings of power the Mandarin seeks in the comics.

We don’t know if the ten rings will still be a part of the character, but our scooper does say he’ll “have a monster at his disposal by the name of Fin Fang Foom.” That might be a nice change of pace. Give Iron Man something to fight besides his mirror image in a bigger suit. Meanwhile Fin Fang Foom also plays a role in Iron Man comic lore. In the comics, he’s an extraterrestrial dragon.

In addition to new bad guys, our source says they may be planning to involve other superheroes in the film.
[Show spoiler]Maybe in the form of the cameo Iron Man is supposed to do later this summer in The Incredible Hulk.
Chief among those is Thor, who may show up in more than just a cameo, possibly helping Iron Man. Thor has his own movie coming out the same summer Iron Man 2 hits, so that makes a certain kind of sense. It would be a way for Marvel to get people interested in a superhero franchise which, really isn’t as high-profile. Other possible superhero cameos include Hawkeye and Black Widow.

While our source for this is tried and true, please keep in mind that none of this is final yet. It’s still very very early in the Iron Man 2 production phase. With no script yet, anything could change, and with Iron Man 2 not being released till 2010, we’re going to have plenty of time to talk about it.
Incredible Hulk possible spoiler
[Show spoiler]I think that Iron Man's cameo in Hulk may be more than a cameo. Possibly helping to defeat the Abomination or capturing the Hulk at the end.

Very cool info, if it's got any legs. Only time will tell! For me, I like spoilers. For one, it's all about the experience, I don't necessarily need to be in the dark completely about everything, I'm there to see the execution of the movie.

That said, I don't really care for those that give things away that go beyond "leaks". IF someone has seen the movie, don't give away critical points (like the underlying secret of Sam Rami's The Sixth Sense) that, literally, make the movie; but possible story lines, who's going to be in it, possible cameos, that's all good!

A big thank you to the OP for being kind enough to "hide" the spoiler info for those that like to be kept in the dark.

I seriously doubt this. The Hulk spoiler. Im quite positive its a very quick cameo. But Nick Fury may make another appearance. But there will almost certainly be a cameo unknown to us

Supposedly (since I'm not a movie executive), this is the official capacity Downey play in The Incredible Hulk:

All I heard about the cameo was
[Show spoiler]Stark meets with General Ross and they discuss a partnership regarding Stark's weapons.

Default Downey Jr. and Favreau on Iron Man 2

Entertainment Weekly caught up with both Robert Downey Jr. and director Jon Favreau after the box office figures for Iron Man started coming in. They asked both about Iron Man 2, coming to theaters on April 30, 2010.

Here's a clip from the Downey Jr. interview, which you can read in full here:

When you were brainstorming with Jon Favreau, what were the elements that you wanted to bring to the next Iron Man movie?
There's this idea of Terrence [Howard] putting on a suit and coming back as War Machine, who is pretty iconic in the Iron Man and Marvel universe. Just seeing where it can all go, but grounding it in a very modern mythology. I see it as greatest dysfunctional family story ever told.... In The New York Post a couple days ago, [there was a cartoon] of Iron Man suited up, and he's telling the governor even his super-powers can't get him out of the budget problem. That was what Jon was hoping for and excited to see the most, the idea that Tony Stark and Iron Man can become part of the cultural fabric. When we heard posters were being defaced to promote political or social ideas, he just got such a hoot out of that.

And a bit from the Favreau interview, available in full here.

Will you be involved with the sequel?
We've been speaking informally about it, and in concept we would all love to work together again. But I found out about the announcement last night, so it's not something that — we would definitely love to collaborate more with the sequel. There's no formal arrangement yet, but in theory we would all love to see it happen.... There's definitely a lot of ideas that we all have now. This type of movie is based on serialized materials, so it lends itself very easily to [many different sequel possibilities]. There's definitely a level of enthusiasm from myself and the cast to tell more stories.

IGN had a pretty good article last week speculating about the next Iron Man movie. Because Rhodes says, "Next time, baby," while looking at the Mark 2 suit in the first movie, leads us to believe we'll be seeing him as War Machine in the next one. But if it follows the comics at all, Tony Stark will have problems with his alcoholism forcing Rhodes to don the Iron Man suit. While Rhodes is stepping in as Iron Man, he loses control and goes crazy forcing Tony Stark to create a new suit to stop him.

I'd rather see that storyline than the one with the Mandarin.

Oh, and about the Incredible Hulk cameo:
