I still have the bad taste from the Russell Athletic Bowl in my mouth, and it isn't likely going to go away until the fall. I'm certainly starting to have some doubts about his longterm success ceiling. Our defense is a hot mess. He has done a great job given the hand he was dealt, that is undeniable. But how far can he take us?

Penn st won't hire him because they know he can't coach either. You guys are stuck with him until you fire him in another year or two. Glad to see you're getting the point I was trying to make.

Penn State seems very interested in Golden. We just don't know if the interest is mutual. Penn State is not the job it once was.

Very far my friend and here's why. Most of these college colleges can't coach very much at all and that includes the likes of Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban. So what is they key? What makes the difference between winning and losing? Recruiting is the key and that something Golden is very good at. Remember in 2001 our team kicked everyone's behind? Why? Because we had stud palyers at every poition, which had been recruited by Butch Davis before he left for the Browns. Coker was coaching that team and Larry Coker, albeit a nice guy, is a terrible head/borderline incompetent coach.

Thus, when the players recruited by Butch left, Coker was left with his recruits which were not all that great and Coker got fired.
Recruiting, managing relationships with boosters, high schools, and parents are the keys to winning in college football. A good example is from FSU. Does anyone think that Bobby Bowden was a great X's an O's coach? I'll say no, not all but he was able to do the things I outline above plus he surrounded himself with great assistants.

First round I get. But I've watched every game Bortles has played for UCF and I don't see how he's top-15, let alone top-5, as much as I like the guy. It's weird because early in the season he had some very good big games, yet wasn't considered first round. Later in the season I didn't see much improvement and somehow he shoots up to being considered top-5?
