Is Royal Flash any good? I might be interested in trying to snag the free copy later in the month if it is.

Why would anyone want to license the title if they couldn't sell close to 3000 on blu-ray.

It's a fun film. Have you seen Richard Lester's Three Musketeers films? If so, then it's along the same lines as that.

I think I saw the first one a long time ago on tv and enjoyed it.

I totally agree that the preorder limit is a good idea. However, that is not what my post was about . I was referring to the fact that demand is going to strip supply which is fixed at 3,000. Not everyone who wants a copy will get to buy one.

Because other labels would distribute it to Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, and other places where it might actually sell copies?

Just a guess.

Haven't most of the Sony titles from TT either sold out, or aren't too far off (less than 1,000 left)? I'd guess that some of the Fox titles (Roots of Heaven, Desiree, Swamp Water, Bite the Bullet etc...) will never sell 2,000, let alone 3,000.

Sony (USA) has handed TT well-known classics, popular horror titles, and recent vintage films where demand is in many cases greater than 3000 units even at $30+ per blu-ray. Fox for the most part has not done this. With a few exceptions, the Fox titles are relatively obscure lost-in-the-vault or less well-known catalog fare that fit well within TT's business model self-imposed 3000 limit (a number ported over from the 1990s for sales of limited edition soundtracks). Also, most Sony titles for the first year were priced higher and still are.

Sony USA is the company giving away titles to TT that lead to most of the complaints with their business model. I am also afraid the United Artists and MGM deal is headed in the same direction.

I wonder though, do they make 3000 copies and store them, or do they make enough to fulfill pre-orders, then run off copies as needed?

probably make 3000, it's cheaper to do a batch than do them in small amounts. there's always fees to use the equipment of whatever pressing company they're utilizing

While I wouldn't be surprised (and would be very pleased) to see some of the Sony titles eventually end up with Criterion (after TT's 3-year exclusive is up) I'd guess that Mill Creek will snap up a lot of them. Which will mean generally dismal packaging, but you'll probably be able to pick them up at Wal-Mart for five bucks a pop.

How would you all feel if after three years TT re-released the sold out titles (maybe another batch of 3,000) that we all thought were "limited editions"?

I'd be okay with a re-release so the people who missed out could get them but I would also like to make the copies I have unique. Maybe they could re-release them without isolated scores? I don't know....

I would be extremely happy. I have several TT titles and couldn't give two sh*ts that they're "limited edition" or not. My feeling is that everyone who wants a copy of this, or any other release, should be able to have one and not miss out because of some arbitrary number chosen to artifically manufacture demand. I'd be especially happy for those people who missed out on titles such as Fright Night or Christine because so many copies were snapped up by scalpers.

Quite frankly, most of the OOP titles are ones I don't really care about. The only ones I'd want are: The Big Heat, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Mysterious Island, and The Egyptian. And I'll probably order the region-free Aussie edition of JttCotE sometime soon.

I think not. They probably follow the same procedure as the limited edition CDs which SAE also sell i.e. run off a proportion of the 3000 depending on how sales are going.

I don't think TT should dumb-down re-releases... I feel that they should be able to re-release any time they want... just at the same price as folks originally had to pay.

I doubt most folks buy TT titles because they are a limited edition... they probably buy them because they want the movie and TT, limited edition of 3000 or not... just happens to be the only way to get it.

TT could maybe say that if demand is high enough they will occasionally be willing to re-release additional runs of 3000 on a case-by-case-basis so there would be a "disclaimer" on the site in case some consumer somewhere does get upset by folks being able to buy copies at a later date.

The model for 3000 came from soundtrack CDs. Often if a sold out title is popular, they will bring out another run of about 1000 copies - possibly they could continue to do this with the TT movies as well?

has anyone ever gotten a defective copy of anything TT? I ordered a lot a few weeks ago and I noticed that the top image (label side) was offset on one of my movies.

also, my latest order has been "pending" since 12/26 are they shut down for holiday? I've already been billed. no pre-orders on that order.

What's your definition of defective? I doubt they'll replace a disc because the label isn't perfectly centered on the disc.

I'm sure they've taken some time off from the holidays but even during non holiday periods it can sometimes take a week or more for them to ship out your order for non preorders.

Oh no, I'm not looking for a replacement, I just opened the case and noticed it. I could care less, long so as it plays.

By defective, I mean, disc won't play, skipping, green/pink blocks in image.
