They have my signature.

The Keep is a visually astounding film that begs to be seen on BD in it's original, longer form.

This terrible film should remain buried forever. It made a travesty of F Paul Wilson's brilliant horror novel.

The Keep is a film I love... alongside Lifeforce... and Dune

80's movies that all had unique elements, from style/look through to music... more interesting than the repetitive tripe we're fed at the moment, IMHO.

Hopefully, Lifeforce sold enough to prove that a Collector's Edition of the Keep would be worth it... maybe for Arrow (etc).

Fingers crossed

I am in league with a person who's in the UK that has fought for this film's restoration for years now. He and another person, also in Europe have worked endlessly in trying to make this happen.
They UK person has also made a documentary filled with interviews and shot in actual locations where the film was shot. He is currently trying to find a venue for it to see the light of day and I have tried to insight interest with various companies, as well as investors to aid him.
He contacted me after reading about my involvement in the restoration of the WATCHER IN THE WOODS, which due to DISNEY turned out to only be a Special Edition. It was something I worked on for 20 years having known the executive producer who initiated the production.
I would love to see a full restoration of THE KEEP but it seems Michael Mann himself is standing in its way. Something I will never understand since if he left this earth yesterday he certainly wouldn't be remembered for his last, or even previous film. He should be thankful he is being remembered for something that is standing the test of time - unlike Miami Vice (TV series) which is laughably out dated and well you know...
Paramount is to blame as well since they aren't any help in getting this film to see the light of day again. They have been approached by other companies to pick up the film but they have said no. Perhaps if more interest was shown maybe they would have a change of heart, and perhaps the director would as well.

He's been offered the opportunity to re-edit the film if he wishes on multiple occassions or to approve any of the multiple existing cuts for release, but beyond expressing mild interest when he's less busy has never actually got round to it. Whether it's a situation like David Fincher and Alien 3 where it's too painful to revisit or if he knows that no matter how he recuts it, it still won't work is anybody's guess. But with home video sales in freefall and the film a major bomb with only a very small cult following, the moment has probably passed.

He certainly wouldn't be remembered for The Keep either.

Can I sign an anti-petition?

Haha…I am only half serious. I usually like Michael Mann films, and any films that show Nazis messing with occult stuff, but this is one of the only films I ever turned off because it was so awful. And I tend to accept a lot of really terrible movies.

I signed and shared it on Facebook, though I doubt any of my friends will bother.

I will sign the petition for this film only if I am threatened with the torture of having to watch it.

No-one cares, forget about the damn novel it's a fantastic film in it's own right, much like Kubrick did with The Shining, Mann took the bare-bones elements of the book and made it his own. It is not meant to be a faithful adaptation of the novel so let it go, not to mention that the film that was released is missing a massive amount of footage, we never got to see the Director's intended version of the film, if we support it's release we may yet get to do so.

Anyone who seriously thinks this is a terrible film needs their head examined.

On the contrary, anyone who thinks this is a great film seriously needs their head examining. Between some terrible performances from actors who should know better, ridiculous direlogue, poor special effects and weak script it turns some interesting ideas into a complete misfire. At best it's a sporadically interesting misfire, but there's so much wrong with so many of the scenes in the film that the flaws are clearly too substantial to be improved by editing. The fact that Mann has repeatedly failed to take up offers to release a director's cut in the past doesn't exactly convince that even he thinks there might be a better film left on the cutting room floor - and this is a director who has never passed up an opportunity to re-edit his other films.
