What a shambles this is! The Australian release gets all the extras but no Subtitles for the hearing impaired and the US release gets partial subtitles (few non Cambodians speak Cambodian!!) and misses half the extras. When and where might we get a complete release worthy of this film??

I took a quick look at the disc tonight when I got home. Slim supplements aside, I thought the film looked and sounded just fine. A tad dark here and there, but overall I was very, very happy with what I saw.

Given the subject matter, one could only imagine what Criterion could do with this film in terms of bonus material.

Preordered the movie with Amazon and waited for months, but after finding out it comes with only original stereo sound and not a reworked 5.1/7.1 track, I cancelled. Piss on that, what a disappointment to say the least. Great movie, maybe one of the best ever made and realistic. But what's the point when the sound sucks and doesn't give a second audio option that would be listened to by most people, including those movie purist Nazis, some of whom skulk on these forums paranoid any altering is akin to sacrilege.
Nope, I wait for a British release. Maybe the Limeys will see the light and add-in something listenable. Hey, one can only hope.

Default The Killing Fields (30th Anniversary Edition) - January 7, 2014 Pre-order

Orrrr you could do it yourself by activating Dolby Pro Logic. It's really easy.

You think it's one of the best movies ever but you won't buy it because if only has the original soundtrack. Who's the fascist?

You're getting the soundtrack, exactly the way it was originally recorded theatrically, and The Killing Fields was not remixed in 5.1 on the DVD either, so what's the difference? You prefer not owning a great movie on blu-ray, just because it does not have a remixed 5.1 sountrack? How lame! Any 2-channel stereo, will flag to Dolby Pro-Logic IIx on your receiver anyway.

That looks like a very nice DigiBook. The DigiBook haters really don't know what they're missing out on.

We know exactly what we're missing and that's exactly the point. We WANT to miss out on it. I just want the movie on a regular case; I don't need anything else.

Maybe, maybe not. I've yet to see armarays of Man Who Would Be King or Papillon. You could always go the custom cover route or resell the digi IF it comes out in a standard case.

Does this new bluray still have the bizarre rotoscoped blood? I was never quite sure if this was how the movie always was or if it was some screwed up effect to cover lost source elements on the Holland release. I haven't seen it on DVD to compare, either, so for all I know it's in every version. I've never seen it mentioned anywhere but it stuck out like a sore thumb to me when I watched it and really took me out of the movie.

Screenshots included:

Thats a shame. I didnt see anything about this

On a side not. Interesting that the New York times linked the full movie in their article from an uploader (non official)... http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/10/bu...odia.html?_r=5

The already existing extra features on the AUS BD are really excellent. A one hour in depth making of doco, and 50 minutes interviewing the producer. All VERY insightful. Lots of very interesting material is discussed.

I haven't listened to the director's commentary yet.

But basically you have 2 hrs of high quality interviews and "making of" material plus the director's commentary, and the trailer

BTW the producer says there is a ton of cut footage, and even mentions the idea of a longer director's cut eventually being made. Certainly there is the opportunity for a lot of "deleted scenes"...

For those who haven't seen the BBC Omnibus doc:

(Spanish subtitles mind), but still an incredible feat.

Just a friendly bump and head's up for anyone still wavering on the US WB Digibook... It's becoming a bit scarce.

I picked up what may have been the last (and cheapest) copy at DeepDiscount, Target seems down to 1 copy, there may be a few at B&N and WalMart, and Amazon is down to independent sellers who are getting pricey.

Could be a 4K candidate, but so could The Right Stuff, and no word yet on either, right? I missed out on the latter digibook for a decent price, so I didn't want to miss this one.
