PS3 Blu-ray drive failures?

He then tells me that I shouldn't do that because Sony puts the cheapest BD drive in the PS3 and they'll only last about 3 months. Further conversation reveals that their Sony Rep. told them this and that Sony would not be replacing these drives. I was pretty much incredulous and, frankly, a bit insulted. I've had my PS3 for 18 months now and no problems.

The question is: am I on 15 months of borrowed time?
