Only on the internet do you have a debate of Friends vs Batman.

Apple vs oranges friends. Different audiences. Different time periods. Different everything other than they happen to be TV shows. Move along.

I'd take it on dvd or blu at this point. But, blu would certainly be awesome and great closure for many fans.

Would Batman date Rachel, Monica or Phoebe? That is the real question that should be asked.

Phoebe, because of the cat connection.

Joey would date Batgirl and the 3 Catwomen!

But, back on topic, Day one for me, on Blu-ray!

My goodness, none of those "Friends" chicks holds a CANDLE to Julie Newmar in a tight cat suit!!!

First woman I ever had a crush on, and at 5 years old, no less!! Julie Newmar was a WOMAN!!! She was a champion!! Those chicks from "Friends" are benchwarmers!

though I might take Barbara Eden or Jacklyn Smith and maybe(just MAYBE) Linda Carter over Julie Newmar! And Mary Ann from Giligan's Island is a close second!!!

And Friends doesn't get referenced? By the way, the comic is read by almost nobody and The Brave and the Bold can't be credited to the 60s Batman series. I don't know what Adam West's Family Guy role has to do with it, either. He may be in there due to some McFarlane appreciation for the show, but I would bet you that 90% of Family Guy viewers have no idea who he is other than the mayor of Quahog. Even if they did, Batman has nothing to do with Family Guy. But, if anything with Adam West can be attributed to Batman, then all of the shows the Friends cast are currently on can be attributed to Friends. Heck, Matt LeBlanc plays himself in one, too!

Friends will not have the lasting power of Batman's TV show.
Of course it will. Friends will be running in syndication much longer and more often than the Batman TV show. I would be surprised if Friends hasn't already had more airings than Batman.

I'd say the impact Batman had in the 60's is greater than that of Friends in the 90s.
What is that based on, though? What impact did Batman have? I can't think of any other tv show that came after it that seemed to be influenced by it. I've seen plenty of sitcoms trying to recreate "Friends". I can't think of any that have tried to reproduce "Batman". Not that that's a bad thing, but the show just didn't have a real impact on the medium. Has nothing to do with whether it's good or bad.

Batman competed against less channels. Friends is during cable.
I'm not sure what is being argued there... That Friends had tougher competition and still managed to be more popular than Batman?

I'm not going to argue that Batman could be more popular on DVD/Blu-Ray than Friends (I would bet it will outsell Friends on Blu-Ray). But, there is no question that Friends is immensely more popular than Batman as a television show.

This is a really weird debate.... Anyone want to compare Batman to The Simpsons?

speaking of The Green Hornet.....maybe that's next? SyFy Channel ran a marathon of all 25 episodes back when the Green Hornet Movie came out and even though they were in 1080i and an obviously an upconversion, they looked pretty darned good!

You honestly think people are buying as many TV-on-video releases as they were 10 years ago with Netflix and Hulu and iTunes? Keep dreaming pal.

This thing is becoming less viable sales-size as time goes on. That cannot be questioned.

This. But more importantly the content providers want physical media to die.

The live action television show was extraordinarily popular, called "the biggest TV phenomenon of the mid-1960s".[7] At the height of its popularity, it was the only prime-time television show other than Peyton Place to be broadcast twice in one week as part of its regular schedule, airing at 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays.

It was also a fad that quickly died down, resulting in a short-lived show. It has also fallen into near-obscurity due to the lack of a home video release and spotty availability in reruns. It has also been unfairly cast as an embarrassment and an unintentional comedy which is unfortunate because it was absolutely intended to be a comedy.

In any case, you can't possibly suggest that its phenomenal success in 1966 has remained intact and unchanged in 2014.

ABC survived when Batman went off the air. Other than Sunday Night Football and The Voice, NBC has been on life support since around the time Friends went off the air.

I'm so glad I managed to accidentally spark off a Friends vs Batman argument. It'll keep us going until the bluray is announced officially.

I only mentioned it by chance as I spotted it on my shelf. I could just have easily said The Prisoner.

I wonder if the Batman theatrical movie from 1966 and Legends of the Superheroes (1979) will be part of the set too?
