This doesn't interest me...
I miss the inter-connectivity of the Timmi-Verse!
If they started doing that again, then I'd start caring again.

I haven't seen any of them, but are all these Batman DTV animated movies from the past few years completely standalone? Superman too? I know Year One and Dark Knight Returns are their own thing, but I'm wondering if there is any kind of cohesive universe or if these are just one interpretation of the characters after another.

There are some that are deliberately connected (The two Superman/Batman ones I think, maybe some of the Justice League ones,) but otherwise they're all standalone. THAT SAID, there's little to suggest that most of them don't take place in the same universe, with a couple of exceptions (you'd have difficulties making Dark Knight Returns or New Frontier "fit in" to the continuity, for example.)

Frankly, I don't really care, as long as they're enjoyable by themselves.

Funny. I think that Deathstroke has a better Batman voice than Batman!

Edit: Oh, that's because it's Jason O'Mara from "Justice League: War" playing Batman again. That explains things. He sounds horrible in what I've seen in that film, as well.

Each one is based on a different source, with largely different casts, etc. (though some do repeat performances). There really is no connection between any of them, aside from the direct sequels.

That said, they are all rather good - my only real critique is how short they are because of budget constraints. They usually run around 70 minutes, when they really feel like they needed another 20-30 minutes to really tell the stories they are trying to tell.

This one...seems like the odd one out. I'll get it, love Batman, and have collected the entire series - but I have doubts as to both the new voice of Batman, and I really am not chomping at the bit to watch Batman dealing with a bratty son, LOL.

Their animated movies are a bit better than what I've been seeing in the live action department. I do agree that these need to have some length or at least be split up. The Dark Knight Returns was a nice example. I think for the most part Bruce Timm is overseeing some of these movies that have been released. Never read this comic, but look forward to seeing this once it comes out.

WB and DC would be a lot better off if they used the same voices for each character across movies, but most of the budget apparently goes to getting big names as voice actors. Some of their recent choices for critical roles have been outright disastrous, I wonder if they even had an audition before getting the role.

WB needs to learn that no one is buying these movies because some random B-list Hollywood actor is voicing the character. The character itself is selling the movie.

I loved TDKR, I think they did a pretty good job there. Son of Batman doesn't look all that to me, but I'll check it out.

I want to see the Knightfall Saga, that would be amazing if handled right.

The last film(s) Timm supervised was The Dark Knight Returns.

I didn't like Damian when they introduced him in the comic books. He sounded annoying when I read his dialogue, so I gave up on reading anything with him in it right away. But he doesn't sound anywhere near as annoyed as I expected when I watched this trailer. I would've bought it anyway cuz I'm a loyal DC guy and the previous ones have mostly been good. But I'm surprised to be encouraged by this trailer.

Leaving aside the question of "Who with?",

Quote:
Morena Baccarin as Talia (al Ghul), Damian's mother;
(Oh, now, that's just wrong... )

I guess that means he's not going to have an alternate-canon illegitemate daughter with Catwoman who later becomes the Huntress, then?

(...No, on second thought, WB already did that series, and it stank.)

FWIW, that point spins out from a graphic novel published in 1987;
[Show spoiler]in it, Batman and Talia do the deed and the ending suggests she had their baby without Bruce's knowledge
.

I find it funny that Jason Todd gets voted to die because he was an annoying brat.

DC recreates Robin, after Tim Drake's turn, as a carbon copy of Todd (in terms of brattiness), and its successful.

Damian has a lot more to him than being an annoying brat. You guys really should check out the Batman and Robin comics. He's a great character. Not every character is supposed to be perfect and likable. He's a trained killer and his story is all about resisting that urge and finding salvation to be like his father. You eventually learn to love Damian. Hopefully this movie will cover some of that.

Ive read plenty of damian stories, and his personality profile, despite his background story and development, mirrored Todd's defiance.

That was one of the major complaints with todd. and why he was voted out during the death of a family phone campaign.

Yeah, I remember... I was there.. I voted to kill him!

BUT, the difference with Damian is that Damian is Batman's real son!

With Batman, the struggle is: 1) taking on another Robin, much like Jason Todd, and 2) not wanting to fail as his mentor or his father.

With Damian, the struggle is 1) not giving in to his urge to kill, and 2) trying to be like his father and make his father proud.

Yeah, he's a cocky defiant brat, but he's also very loyal -- that's what makes it such a struggle for both characters and what makes it compelling!

I am looking forward to this, even if my two favourite Robins are Jason Todd and Dick Grayson.

This is incorrect. Jason Todd's vote was rigged. It's been confirmed that the "kill him" vote won out by 65 votes total, and it was later learned that some individual had rigged an old computer to dial up and vote for his demise every minute or so, so in actuality, most people had voted to spare him.
