People are going to take issue with this movie regardless with what ends up happening. I trust the people involved that they know what they're doing, and I'm willing to give this film a fair shot. It's easy to say that we don't want them to do this, that, or the other thing, but without full context, it's hard to say if it's a bad or good idea. But honestly, the people making this love the series, and they want to bring it back in a big way, so bringing back the main cast is one way to guarantee that people will be excited for it. Lets just hope for the best, and give the creators a chance to bring their vision to life.
As always, Walt, fantastic post.
I'm 42, not too far down the geriatric process(that I know of ), and can't wait to see all the original actors/characters passing the torch along.

Because you speak with logic and reason rarely gifted to a person your age. I'm impressed!

Same here, it's a good club to be in. Not too old and not too young.

Though I did miss out on watching the OT theatricals on the big screen...

Thanks, man. I've lived and learned a lot, and I like to bring as much as thought and reason as I can to these discussions. We all love movies here, and we all feel passionate about them or we would be here. So there's no reason we can't have civil, thoughtful discussions and debates.

Glad I'm not alone!

I was lucky enough to catch the Special Editions at a young age in theaters, and I saw 'Return of the Jedi' last year at the Egyptian for the 30th anniversary screening, on 35mm! It was great.

Thanks, sir. I looked up to the ideals and ideas Walt brought to the world, and filmmaking as a whole. He's very inspirational, and I think if I can just add a little of what he did with his life to mine, then mine will be fulfilling.

The entire cast of The Expendables movies are in amazing shape, yet most of them look pretty pathetic trying to pretend it's 30 years ago. Yet decent writing, and creative filming let them get away with it.
I'm sure the same thing will happen here, except they will act like older people and not try to pretend they are not.
What, do you need Leia doing backflips and fighting off hoards of bad guys to be a viable character?
Luke is a Jedi Master, so he won't have to move that much if he so chooses...just like: Obi Wan(Sir Alec Guinness) he worked out just fine.
Han well he could be a complete wild card, but we'll have to see.

I think my concern is Karen Allen in KOTCS. I love Karen Allen, but being out of the biz for so long showed as far as her acting prowess. Didn't help she wasn't given much to do either. When was the last time Fisher or Hamill have been in front of the camera in such a high profile film? Ford's been working consistently, though I hope "gimme the paycheck and I'll try to stay awake" Ford doesn't show up. I do hope it works out.

ROTJ was the proper sendoff for the original characters. I'd rather see this focus on a new generation. I like Abrams so I'm still optimistic....

No offense, but this kind of attitude/statement is rude, imo.

They aren't doing the movie so you can think they look "good". Neither one of them *needs* to do the film (or either/both would have been in WAY more films just on name status). It's a favor to fans, and maybe a nod to their own nostalgia.

They are both older; it happens. In real life, as people age, the blush of youth fades.

That's reality. Not movie magic.

I agree. Carrie Fisher gets the worst of it and I just don't get it. She's 57 years old.

People really think this is so bad? Looks pretty good to me (aside from some possible cosmetic surgery).

Exactly, Spanky...

Did you see that comedy show she did a few years ago on cable?

I can't remember the exact wording so this is paraphrasing... but it was something like she ran into a fan and they said "What happened to you? You used to be so hot?" She replied "I was 25; we were all hot".

Mark Hamil didn't look so terribad in Sushi Girl, either (of course I could barely see him hehe).

I'm so looking forward to this movie, I am arguing over the interwebs about it. That says something right there

I always like it when people on the internet complain about how others look. Especially actresses and their ageing. They wouldn't have sex with you then and they still won't now so get over it.

While all eyes have been on the old cast returning for Star Wars Episode VII, with rumours about who might play the leading new characters, here’s a report that has come from nowhere: Judi Dench is apparently up for the role of Mon Mothma.

Big Shiny Robot claim to have heard from a source that the legendary British actress and former Bond star is set to play the rebel leader seen co-ordinating the attack on the second Death Star in Return Of The Jedi.

The news, while it has to be taken with a huge vat of salt and filed under ‘Possibly Not’ along with a hundred other casting rumours, still fits in with a recent tease from El Mayimbe of Latino Review:

HINT: A nominee currently on the awards circuit (including tonight) is up for a major role in STAR WARS EPISODE VII. Who can it be? RT
— elmayimbe (@elmayimbe) January 19, 2014

The chances are, obviously, that this is still speculation at this stage, or in fact that Dench has been linked to the role but hasn’t signed on for it (yet).

But it makes sense that Episode VII is filled out with more existing Star Wars characters than just the central gang, so who knows? M may become Mon Mothma after all.
