You could get the steelbook from Germany as well, which is actually a little cheaper than the US set (though the US set comes with the lithograph and bandanna), but I think the steelbook may be region locked. EDIT: Anyone know what this is? https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Metal...Blu-ray/93732/ |

listen HERE at 5:30 and you hear the click while recording. No one records in a studio without am click of some kind anymore. Also the engineer would have been more likely timing the click. and its just 2 different tempos merged on the DM intro which is easy to program in PT. Live they use the single tempo because I am sure it was too difficult tom get the change right. Whereas in the studio they could do a dozen retakes. either way... they used a click recording DM. |

A lot of bands re-record parts of live performances if they're releasing it on Blu/DVD. They want to get the best sounding product out there to attract potential new customers.
Also why bands do 2-3 nights in the same city when they record a show. They take the best parts from each night and compile them together. |

It hasn't been re-recorded. What they've done is what they did with Quebec Magnetic. Obviously they gone through and mixed the guitars well so they don't have as harsh and close-miced sound that their usual live recordings you can download have. The vocals have been tweaked a little but if anything again it's mostly better mixing.
The main thing is the drums. As a drummer and being very familiar with Lars' playing and sound it's painfully obvious they've gone through and applied peak normalization to every single kick and snare hit. They've then triggered them. The snare stands out quite obviously as of more recent times Lars' snare has been tuned higher in pitch and despite some dampening it always has quite a few overtones and ringing. The snare sound is now tight, far lower in pitch and much more akin to the snare tone you'd have heard in the late 80's/early 90's. They've also tightened up his double kick work by shifting hits so it's not sloppy. Being a movie and a concert film I'm not surprised they did this, after all it would be quite poor NOT to produce a mix that sounded decent. As for the recording - well the most definitely did record with a click but they did not use it for all sections of a song. There was a behind the scenes feature where it specifically talked about choosing when to and when not to use a click. Last edited by gettodamoofies; 01-20-2014 at 07:13 PM. |

1. Français Pour une Nuit 2. Through the Never 3. Quebec Magnetic Through the Never is likely just as heavily processed as Français Pour une Nuit is (possibly more so), they've simply spent more time on the production of it so the resulting mix sits better and sounds more natural than Français Pour une Nuit where it was really obvious that things like the double kick work had been altered to the point that it had that Fear Factory-ish mechanical like precision. I like Lars for what he brings to Metallica (despite not being a fan of his technique or drum sound of late) but he is not mechanical like Gene Hoglan and it sounds really out of place when the performance has been poked and prodded to get it to a technically proficient level. For the record, this is me doing a drum cover just to demonstrate I'm not a faceless, nameless person bashing Lars' performance (which I'm not - just pointing out it's definitely been worked on quite a bit in the studio post-performance) with no proof that I'm remotely qualified to say anything about the subject: Last edited by gettodamoofies; 01-20-2014 at 09:38 PM. |

Nope. Rumor has it that they may do another release further down the line, but nothing has been announced yet.
