Default Foreign language TV series

Have done a forum thread search and there doesn't appear to be an existing thread for foreign language TV series. And this thread may have to be moved to the DVD Movies or Blu-ray (United Kingdom & Ireland) folder as some discussion in this thread will be about European Blu-ray releases of foreign language TV series.

Are the Swedish Blu-rays of the series Arne Dahl in their original aspect ratio? Five two-part stories were shown on BBC Four in the UK earlier this year. It seemed like Arrow Films were going to release the series on both DVD and Blu-ray, but instead it was a DVD only release.

The listings for the Blu-rays (exactly where from, I don't know) at Amazon UK say "widescreen", so I would imagine they are.

The reason I asked about whether the Swedish Blu-ray sets of Arne Dahl are in their original aspect ratio, was because of some discussion in the Blu-ray.com thread about Borgen's UK Blu-ray sets.

A European TV series which BBC Four are supposed to be showing (based on a Digital Spy news article), is Salamander.

Do the Danish Blu-ray releases of the original Those Who Kill series have good transfers, sound and English subtitles? There appear to be five separate films and a pilot film.

What was the original aspect ratio of the first series of Broen and is the Danish Blu-ray release available from many shopping websites?

Also, regarding the second series of Broen (currently airing on BBC Four), is Arrow Films' UK Blu-ray set going to have the ten episodes in the second series on two or three discs?

Can only answer the first question: it's 1.78:1.

I'd got the impression that the aspect ratio was the same as Borgen, but thanks for answering my question.

Replacing the second series/season of Below the Surface this Saturday night on BBC Four is a new Scandinavian detective drama series called Darkness: Those Who Kill. As per usual, double bills each Saturday.

I know it's not a foreign-language series, but Canadian series Cardinal has been airing in the same timeslot. The third season aired earlier this year (thought it was better than the second season).

Frankly I am delighted to discover some of the excellent "foreign" series on Netflix and more. Reading subtitles is not a problem for the truly literate and getting a feel for the tastes and talents of other cultures is an adventure.
It's time that many Americans got their heads out of their collective as.... the sand and checked out more of the world in which we live.

I couldn’t agree with you more, I started off with the original Danish version of The Killing, and have been addicted to foreign series ever since. I just finished Trapped season 2, great series, with great acting from top to bottom.

Occasionly on Sunday nights on Channel 4, they show the first episode of a new foreign-language series from the Walter Presents library. Last Sunday they showed the first episode of Hotel Beau Sejour. I'm not sure, but I think it's had a German Blu-ray release (does it have English subtitles, I don't know).

Another foreign-language series, which HAS had a German Blu-ray release, is Tabula Rasa. This does have English subtitles.

For several weeks now, airing in the UK on More 4, has been a detective series called Thou Shalt Not Kill.

This feels like it should be in the general section of TV Shows than U.K. TV section.

Speaking of "foreign" series, I quite enjoy these Spaniard series: La Que Se Avecina, Seņoras del (h)AMPA, and, El Pueblo.

Starting on BBC Four a week this Saturday is a new Norwegian detective series called Wisting (starring Carrie-Anne Moss). There are ten episodes in total.

Based on the first two episodes of Wisting last weekend, am looking forward to the rest of the series/season. Very good story which draws you in, and the second episode ended in an intriguing way. Carrie-Anne Moss is billed as a guest-star in the title sequence.
