I was talking with a guy at my work about his old surround sound from the 80s. Turns out the its an old klipsch 5.1 the 2 mains are forte II I think. He doesn't the model numbers on the surrounds, center, and sub or reciever. But he said one the surrounds doesn't work. And that he doesn't know if the mains work. Due to they haven't been used in a while. He said he would sell then for 100 because his mom just wants to get rid of them. Is it worth the risk? any signs I should look for, im going to check them of in the next couple days? Is this worth it? Are these speakers good if they work?
Edit: I'm pretty sure the guy is being honest with me and his family just wants to get rid of them. So that being said in a perfect work if everything check out ok and even with the speaker he told me does work is this worth it. I added this because I didn't want to get a response of he's probably lying at that low of a price. Last edited by Frog Foot; 02-01-2014 at 06:14 AM. |

If the cabinets are in decent shape, and the speakers all work......replacing the foam surrounds is the least of your concerns IMO. They can be refoamed for very little $

So my truck bed has cleared out with snow. But is will still be sub freezing temperatures should I be worried about these conditions effecting the speakers during the moving process. I won't using them after I get them home to let them warm up will I be ok to move them 20 degree weather plus 15 mile winds or will this warm the speakers?

Edit: I would also like to add will I be able use to the current jbl towers I have now as surrounds because one of the ones I'm getting from the seller doesn't work. Edit: if they come happen to be crack is this a fix I can do or have done for a low cost? Last edited by Frog Foot; 02-03-2014 at 06:00 AM. |

The Forte's have a rear passive radiator so they need to be out in the room a bit not against a wall .
They will blow those particular JBL's away and require much less power to do so . |

Awesome deal I was able to get them home alright with no problems other than curb checking the drive way on my way out. Other than that I think they should be fine. How you attach a photo so it just shows up instead of clinking on the link that says photo so I can post pictures also. Do the front black screens come off on the forte I assume they do but I don't want to force it. They certainly need cleaning

Bad news one if the fortes has a dented cone on the back of the speaker images attached how can I fix this if there is a way at all. Will this effect sound at all if there's no fix
Edit: The speaker with the dented cone (the cone on the back) sound a little muddy when I turn the balance over to that after I made sure all the cables were connected. This could be my auxiliary to av cable I'm using to connect my phone for the music (it's frayed). Is it possible it is the dented cone or the speaker its self I will be buying a new aux cable after work. I'm a little worried about the muddiness of speaker as it plays I kinda statics in and put like it wants to give the clear audio but then goes back to the muddy sound. Any trouble shooting I do to make sure it's not the speakers. I want to assume that is just my aux cable. But I'm a little worried about the dented cone. Any help on any of this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Side note: I was finally able to get the screens off the fortes and everything looks to be in order (besides that one dented cone on the back of the one speaker) on both speakers so I have no idea what the issue is. Again any help would be great Last edited by Frog Foot; 02-03-2014 at 06:06 PM. |
