It's funny that you mention this because I do have a set routine as I do with most things that involve my unwavering affinity of films. The first thing I do is make sure my glasses are clean as I can't stand specks or smudges. Then I do my best to skip past unwanted trailers, ads, and pointless warnings. When I finally do make it to the menu (if it has one) I check the audio and subtitles. I make sure that the audio is the best one in my current listening situation and that the subtitles are turned on if it is the first time I am watching a given title. After that I have almost always have to finish the film as I can't stand stopping it and picking it up at a later time/date. When it is over I briefly skim through any extra features to make sure I watch any deleted scenes. If I thoroughly enjoy the film I will utilize the commentary or other features later.
