United Kingdom Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment

Quote:
Kaleidoscope today announces major new investment from Schneider Media Investments (SMI). SMI has committed to a significant funding package, in return for a minority stake in the business. The investment from SMI will be available immediately, and will enable Kaleidoscope to best exploit the frequent opportunities it is presented with, both in the UK and internationally.

With the new funding, Kaleidoscope will seek to broaden its acquisition strategy into more commercial genre feature films, higher profile television and theatrical documentaries and global production, sales, distribution and investment opportunities.

Spencer Pollard, CEO of Kaleidoscope said: “I am thrilled to have brought SMI in as partners to help continue Kaleidoscope’s growth. Over the last five years we have been very much an organic business and continued to try to innovate and buck market trends. We have had various proposals to discuss over the last few months, which hopefully was a sign of the good work we have been doing but we felt 100% that SMI were the right people to go into business with. It should be an exciting Berlin and Cannes as we look to add to our already solid 2014 slate. I look forward to a long and exciting working relationship with SMI.”

SMI is headed by city executive Sonny Schneider of the Schneider Group, founded in 1996, focusing on trading, broking, debt finance and early stage venture capital. Sonny added: “We are very pleased to be partnering with Kaleidoscope in this deal. We believe that this bringing together of our knowledge and abilities in financing with Kaleidoscope’s considerable expertise in the selection, promotion, sales and distribution of quality films and related content will result in an exciting and bright future for both parties.”
I've found them to be more miss than hit to be honest, but let's hope this means some good acquisitions and better releases.

Deadline have been going on and on about how the merger of Entertainment One and Alliance (Momentum), coupled with the closure of Revolver Entertainment, had left a gap in the British market for somebody to step up and introduce a bit of competition.

So far Studiocanal appears to have taken that role, with Koch Media and the UK divisions of Warner Bros. and Universal also trying to take advantage of the situation. It seems like Kaleidoscope also want to take a crack...

Didn't know where else to post this. According to the LFF listing on the BFI site, Kaleidoscope have the UK rights to Na Hong-jin's THE WAILING, so hopefully we will get a Blu-ray of it in the new year! Think it's quite likely, seeing as they've released foreign language titles in the recent past (e.g. Suburra, Police Story: Lockdown, Ip Man 3). Can't wait to see this one...

My copy of The Wailing should be here for the weekend. Can't wait! Shame Eureka didn't pick it up though, as their Masters of Cinema series doesn't have any Korean directors in it.

Yeah, they released The Yellow Sea but as a Monster Pictures/Bounty Films release (so not even a regular Eureka title, let alone Masters of Cinema).

I too hope we do get some Korean stuff from MoC, but I guess it'd have to be something newly restored that they can acquire the rights to. I think I read an interview that Third Window once gave and they said Korea is even more difficult to navigate than Japan in terms of rights and quality of materials.

Hong Sang Soo would be a good fit, although probably not commercially viable. To be honest, there have been so many classic Korean films from the last 16-odd years, that even if a fraction of them received a release here I'd be happy.

Kaleidoscope are releasing Sound of Freedom on Blu-ray on Christmas, a film that definitely doesn’t have any controversy around it or take any liberties with the real events.

Kaleidoscope are releasing a Billy Idol concert film as a digipack on December 11th.

Kaleidoscope are releasing Tribeca selected John Lennon documentary The Lost Weekend (not to be confused with the Wilder film) on December 18th.

Bored with Hopkins years ago but that has potential.

United Kingdom The Beast Léa Seydoux, George MacKay, Bertrand Bonello. October 2024

The Beast / Léa Seydoux / George MacKay / Bertrand Bonello / October 2024

Will be watching this for Bertrand Bonello. I thought George MacKay was excellent in 1917 but everything else so far (and before -I went back and looked) he's been very poor.

I saw this at the London Film Festival & it is a great film. Both the leads are excellent.

On a side note my phone accidentally started making noises, during the Q&A with George MacKay afterwards, as i was trying to take a pic of him & this was after I found out my camera 's battery had run out. Thought my phone was on silent but turns out it wasn't & I'd not had it long so got in a muddle with it.

Watched this last night and really liked it had a double bill with Time Addicts not that different really.

Cast was excellent especially Léa Seydoux. Une belle bête.

Mackay was very good so my hope is restored.

Anyone know if this is Region Free, Criterion (US distributor) hasn’t appeared to announce it yet and the earliest it’ll see a release here is most likely next year.

If I had the UK disc I'd keep it happily but obviously with a month to release I'm cancelling.
