Default Verminators - Quite possibly the creepiest reality show

I don't know about anyone else, but when I saw that they were making a show about exterminators, I thought they had officially run out of ideas. Then I watched an episode. I've been hooked ever since. Thank GOD for my DVR.

Sometimes, the infestation, whether it be roaches, rats or anything else, is enough to give me the creeps and make my skin crawl. I don't know how these guys do what they do, but they deserve every penny they make. Plus, it's not all about the killing, they often go to great trouble to relocate certain pest animals (raccoons, squirrels, opposums) for people that don't want them killed.

This one is on Discovery Channel and in HD for those that have Discovery HD. Airs at 10pm EST.

I must confess I've never watched a reality show. I'm not about to start anytime soon.

Love the show. In between that, Man Vs. Wild, Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, and The Alaska Experiment Discovery keeps my pretty busy.

Trust me, I'm not a reality show junkie by any means. But shows like this are more actuality than reality. Mainly because these people are out there working for a living and not cheesing up to the camera.

Actually, I love Alaska Experiment too. I think the whole survivor aspect gets your attention. The idea of a bear or wolf attacking you out there is VERY real. I know I couldn't survive out there...too damn cold for me.

Exactly why they started making actuality shows like this. It's like watching Cops, only they drive an exterminator truck and go after pests instead of criminals.

Verminators appears on Discovery on Monday evening but I'll be watching the Spurs game. I'll just record the show and probably watch it afterwards.

There's a difference in concept between reality shows and docos. Reality shows have a gaming concept which typically involves someone winning money or property. Docos have a storytelling concept where typically the story is atypical but the HOW provides the differentiation.

The two best reality shows out there are The Amazing Race, and its spin-off The Amazing Race Asia, and Project Runway. There are lots of docos out there that I watch regularly including Mythbuster, which is a favorite. "I reject your reality and substitute my own!"

I DO love those T-Rex rat traps though -- never have to worry about chopping my fingers off again.

Verminators is disgusting. I must admit, I was already a little neurotic about staying in hotel rooms (bedbugs). I don't know if I can ever do it again. The rats are another story. I've lived in some urban areas in warm climates (Birmingham, AL and Houston, TX) and the neighborhoods were not infested with rats running around in trees, on roofs, in yards. What's with you Californians living this way?

Alaska Experiment is surprisingly good. I'm a little sick of the focus on PROTEIN, though. It's obvious they recruited participants without much outdoor experience, and I'm impressed with how well the couple who have been dating 5 months are getting along (at least on camera). They've got shelter and supplies, so it's not really like wilderness survival, but it does look tough for the long time they are out there. I spent as long as a week backpacking in Glacier Park and The Bob (Grizzly country in the lower 48) and I know it was difficult to sleep every night. Every noise sounded like a bear. Even scarier though is camping in East Texas. The sound of an armadillo rooting around in the underbrush seems bigger than any old bear. I was outside of the tent with the revolver drawn and my wife hitting the lights. Those little monsters have reflective eyes.

The only real verminator is Kelly Bundy.

Edit: I am glad to see I wasn't the first to think of her.

OK, the last episode of Verminators creeped me out to the max. There was this one house and it was infested by pigeons. That had to be one of the grossest 15 minutes of television I have seen in a long time. Who knew pigeons could do so much damage?

Also in another story was a house invaded by skunks. Those things can totally decimate a house in rapid fashion.

Talk about your dirty jobs. This one (pest removal specialist) is way up there.
