(If anything it only further suggests Disney joining UV is inevitable even if it makes Steve Jobs turn over in his grave.)

No, the stupid U.S. 3D delay is to "milk the cow" (as Ernest Rister put it in the other Frozen thread) by double-dipping it on BD3D in the fall. (Edit: Think Avatar, since Frozen's worldwide box office is heading to Cameron-esque levels.) Based on last year's The Jungle Book I suspect the UK BD3D may be region-locked (never fully trust Amazon on region coding), but I can handle that. For now I'd rather double-dip with the Vudu in-store preorder (early 2D download, hopefully add Google Play with DC+ code for my Nook HD) plus UK BD3D than support Vudu's highway-robbery 3D library OR wait for the U.S. BD3D. (Of course I could change my mind, but then I still have my Mexican Dumbo BD and have NO intent of ever buying the U.S. BD. )
Disney is dreaming if they think 3D streaming is going to catch on and be accepted. The price points on VUDU for Frozen 3D is $5-$6 for rental and $35 for owning! WOW!! have any of you actually tried 3D on streaming? Its TERRIBLE, its so compressed, and if you are used to Blu-ray you will find it unwatchable. Just go to vudu and you can try a free sample of Tangled 3D

Though Frozen will get 3D streaming along with 2D at Vudu on 2/25, it's plainly a nonstarter. *If* Vudu offered it with backwards compatibility (i.e., 2D HDX, HD & SD as well as 3D HDX & HD) for that price I *might* try it; but at that price for *just* risky 3D streaming, I'd rather get the 2D BD/DVD/DC and then double-dip in BD3D (UK now or more than likely U.S. later).

I went ahead and just ordered the Zavvi 3D Steel. I'm a sucker for steelbooks and don't have to deal with the latest Mouse House brilliant idea. Sent a disappointed email to Disney.

Good point about a possible Deluxe version that may include a blu ray 3D disc of Frozen.

Since we got our 55inch W900A that's all my wife has talked about is watching 3D movies and because of our daughter this is one movie she wanted to see in 3D. My question is is Disney going to release it on 3D Blu or not?

Probably only digitally here in the states unfortunately. That's why there are some of us here taking our chances with an import. My question is whether Disney's new policy will extend to all future Disney and Pixar releases as well?

Perhaps it wasn't a lesson they learned but a test to see how big an impact it would be if they didn't include the 3D copy. Maybe from that test they decided it wasn't worth the payout to include 3D in their bundles. Maybe more of us should have voted with our dollars and jumped through their hoops to purchase the 3D copy. I know I didn't buy it either, based on principle, but now I'm thinking I may have shot myself in the foot. But either way, it's poor customer service on Disney's part to even do this to their customers.

Is the Zavvi 3D Frozen steel book Region Free? What if it comes and it's B locked?

Peruse the thread; chances are very slim that it will be region locked.

Then you can probably sell it for at least what you paid for it; Zavvi's last announcement regarding stock said they had less than 500 left.

Everything I have read online (rumors mind you...we won't know for certain til one of us posts on this site or another) suggests it is highly likely it will be region free. If it is locked, you still have a steel book you can use for the 2D blu ray (or the rumored 3D blu release for October...again still rumor, nothing confirmed)

So it looks certain for now, that Disney abandoned the blu ray 3D release in the US anyway for Frozen 3D. Thankfully they didn't feel that way with Thor Dark World 3D or their other Buena Vista releases under the Marvel brand, etc.

In light of Disney's new Acquisition of Star Wars, the losses they claimed from John Carter and Lone Ranger, Disney's marketing team is probably just trying to find ways to tighten up their budgets and sadly 3D was one place they felt they could cut, as a Disney release for Frozen 3D anyway. Thankfully it was released in other areas on blu ray 3D.

Just ordered a frozen 3D steelbook set from Zaavi. Hopefully it is region-free but I do have a multi-region 3d player if it is indeed B locked. I will post if no one else has when I get mine if it is region free or not.

Not officially announced, there is a site with past ties to Disney ventures that now is mentioning a 3D Blu-ray release for October. According to "Brad" the owner and operator of Stitch Kingdom, the proclomation is made with "journalistic integrity" for accuracy of site information and that "at least 95% of what the site has 'suggested' would happen has happened."

I purchased one of the Toy Story 3D shorts and it wasn't too bad. Not as good as Blu-ray though.

My experience has been the opposite with VUDU HDX 3D. I own Sammy's Adventure 1, The Blu Umbrella, & have tried streaming all of the 3D samples and they all play flawlessly and look great.
I did a test with my wife and a couple of friends that were over to watch some 3D movies with us. I played my Blu-ray import of Sammy and the VUDU HDX 3D Sammy for them and each person said they look the same and have the same 3D effect.
I'm not a big fan of streaming or having digital download versions of movies, but VUDU HDX is easily the closest I've seen & heard to Blu-ray.

I will give it another look.. but the Tangled sample was not pretty.

Also.. think about the bit rate required to stream ... Blu-ray 3D runs about 20-30 Mbps most people don't have nearly that speed available and I promise you vudu isn't sending 30mbps to your house even if you have 100mb fibre internet. So something's got to give.. its called compression.

The only compromise I would ever make for owning a only a "digital only" copy of a Blu-ray is that more devices like smart tvs and smart Blu-ray players need to start having a couple hundred GB of on board storage.. that way if I want to watch Frozen 3D. I can pre-download the 40+GB uncompressed file of the movie and keep it stored locally as I watch it.. it stays on my device until I choose to delete it to make room for more downloads, and I can always re-download it. But to truly stream it... it will never be Blu-ray quality any time soon.
