No worries the only thing I'm worried about is whether Grauman's report is accurate lol

Agreed. They might have outdated information possibly? I will check some more but it's hard to find any new info on Robocop 3D.

What's the point of paying for a conversion and then releasing to only one part of the world -- granted the most populous part of the world?

Probably as the film makers didn't want it in 3d but releasing in 3d is more or less a must in China. I like 3d but only of it was the film makers wanted. Tacked on 3d is currently killing/hurting how people perceive 3d.

Well there is currently no UK 3D pre-order whereas you can pre-order it in 2D.

- A 3D version of the film will also be exclusive to China – courtesy of Cubic Pictures. -

After reading the link another user posted here I highlighted that little piece of information from it. now I am pretty sure it is a shitty conversion done

Thanks for that link, which makes this thread more valid now that there is an actual 3D version out there somewhere at least.

I wonder if it will be a China exclusive import blu 3D release in about 3 months, around May, June 2014?

I agree that if the 3D was tacked on and only mild 3D, I won't feel like we missed out on the China exclusive 3D of Robocop, but if the 3D was medium to strong layers, then it's a bummer we got left out everywhere else. Sci Fi movies are great for 3D IMO with all of the special effects, CGI scenery and action.

Will check Robocop out this weekend. Joel Kinneman has been doing a lot of interviews on TV lately promoting the movie. Gary Olman also did an interview on Jimmy Kimmel the other night for this also.

Best Buy had a tag for Robocop (old version) with a special Robocop (2014) movie ticket printout, for blu ray 7.99$, but every time I went to buy it over the past month or two, it was never restocked. I have Robocop 2, but not part 1 yet. Never saw part 3. I'm glad the updated Robocop doesn't walk like a robot with his arms swinging in the air as the original one did.

Anyone see this yet? How did you like it?

I have yet to see it but based on the trailers it looks like a very bad fit for 3d (on top of 3d not being intended). Expect shaky camera work (which is rarely done right but when it is can be effective in 2d but not 3d) and edits that are clearly not done with 3d in mind.

If your going to buy the first film make sure you get the new master. As for the third film, you are very lucky you have not seen it.

Just got out of the Robocop remake a couple hours ago. Honestly I loved it! It respects the source material but it also expands and fleshes out the world in a really welcome and cool way. I also think Joel Kinnaman's take on the character would make Peter Weller proud. In my opinion, we have a classic original and a great remake that can stand side by side.

I saw the trailer in an imax theater and was super excited about this movie. I just don't understand why they apparently made a 3d version of this movie and didn't release it?!?! I do hope for a 3d blu-ray release but they lost the money I didn't spend on tickets when it wasn't released in 3d.

The 3D isn't being done by Sony/MGM, it is a local Chinese conversion house.

That further supports it will be a terrible conversion that looks half done at best.

Ahhh. That puts a whole new paint job on it. Is this done often? Curious to see how the 3d is.

Well, there was a conversion of 2012 specifically for a Chinese re-release. It never saw the light of day on Blu-ray.

Germany's been doing a batch of local 3D conversions of catalog (Total Recall, Daybreakers, Running Scared (2006) plus Sharknado and other Asylum titles...) that have gone straight to Blu-ray, but word is, none of them are that good. None of them are likely coming to the states, since the studios would have to pay for their own conversions.

You may want to hold on to your Robocop 2, I have been looking to buy a copy, but it is out of print and they are now selling for upwards of $30. I bought the new remastered Robocop with the $7.50 movie money at BB and will be going to see the remake this weekend or next.
