Instead of going through rolls and rolls and rolls of film and matching them to the master by eye, illuminate's system loads up all the scanned footage and the SD master and matches them via an automated process, with a claimed success rate of 95% of footage matched digitally, the other 5% by eye. Their marketing bumpf mentions that the system can "replicate images that were repositioned", but says nothing about reframing it after the fact. I'd imagine that the 16:9 decisions were solely in Fox's hands. http://illuminatehollywood.com/wp-co...ginal-film.pdf *This was said to be the reason why Warners didn't do the extended versions of Friends on Blu-ray; they already had a cut negative of the broadcast versions but had no EDL's for the extended scenes, so they didn't bother digging through their archives to find the relevant trims for the Blu-rays (needle, haystack, etc). But the iConform process would appear to no longer give them any excuse... |

That reminds me....I remember seeing some eps of MitM on TV which had been opened up to widescreen from the original 4:3. Will this 16:9 madness never end? Oh the huge manatee!

Orson Welles himself could come back from the dead and declare that Citizen Kane should now be 16:9 since that is the screen dimension everyone uses now, and I'd still tell him where to go. This is no different; the directors and DPs of The X-Files composed for one single ratio, regardless of any protection. I want it in that one correct ratio.

So, you're saying that what a director wants today takes precedence over what he actually did when he made the film, which may be decades after the fact? If Welles wanted to colourise Citizen Kane today, stating that he "always wanted to do it in colour", you'd be behind him on that too (his intention being, to restrict the original non-colourised version from distribution)?

I've always held this stance even with George Lucas and Star Wars. Yes it would be nice to have the OT, on BD, but I respect the artist's decision. Same goes for the X-Files. Which is why I'm fine with either aspect ratio. Unlike some people. ![]() |

I respect the artist's decision too much to not want those things. |

![]() Why shouldn't both versions exist? Let them put both versions out so everybody can watch it the way they prefer.. It can either be widescreen version, or can be a hidious fullscreen version. I know which one i will buy.. (This is all my opinion of course and i'm just putting a few jokes so this argument can end.. WHY are we even discussing this? Like as if we get any say in this.) Don't temp me, i will start a petition to make it so..
![]() (Again, apples and oranges.. But i doubt you will see the point.. So lets f*** it all! Certainly, this discussion will get us nowhere. EddieLarkin said if Orson Welles got resurrected only to make Citizen Kane widescreen, he would show him the finger and do something bad to him.. I'm not clear on the concept.. ![]() Last edited by Sansui01; 02-15-2014 at 10:30 PM. |

![]() ![]() You're right. They should replace Mulder with an apple and Scully with an orange, or I won't be buying it. ![]() By the way, welcome to the site! ![]() |

![]() You got some good ideas, i think the smoking man should be replaced with an avocado, Walter Skinner should be replaced with a strawberry and aliens should be represented as a fruit slicer. Hmm.. It can bring some additional dept to the show i think... ![]() Oh the horror. Too much gore! Last edited by Sansui01; 02-15-2014 at 10:37 PM. |

He can do both on one take by playing a transformer that gets his power from drinking sherry. You know, like Popeye, but instead of being a sailor, he is a robot car thingy and instead of eating spinach, he drinks sherry.. A perfect plan... Let the money roll, with these ideas and a few obligatory explosions, we got a new script for the next transformers movie... All thanks to the Orson Welles who got resurrected just for this movie... and to haunt this forum.

![]() ![]() If you'll notice, the potato is better framed too, as the top of Skinner's head wasn't protected for in that shot. Last edited by frogmort; 02-15-2014 at 11:18 PM. |
