I never got around to seeing this. I keep thinking its like The Last House On The Left or House On The Edge Of The Park.

Nevertheless. Trailer looks AWESOME!

This is one of the grimiest and ugliest horror films from the 70's. The poor voice-overs somehow get combined with the hideous and somewhat surreal atmosphere and they create one of the most ominous horror films out there.

It was shot for 800 or so dollars (The budget was 3000 bucks but they spent the rest on crystal meth) on 16mm and I have to say it's one of the worst looking films in my collection so I'm curious how good it's going to look on Blu-Ray. Judging by Vinegar Syndrome's track record it's probably going to be utterly stunning compared to the DVD's out there.

I have the 2 DVD set from Barrel Entertainment.

Looking forward to upgrading to blu-ray although I can't imagine they can do much with this one!

As good as the Barrel DVD set was for its time, there's a lot of improvement that could be done for the film itself. Also, a decent portion of the evisceration scene that was cut from many prints was presented from a video source and inserted into the film on the Barrel dvd. The quality goes way down in that segment and there's artifacting and bad morphing, even looking worse than the uncut Sun Video vhs tape. If Vinegar Syndrome comes up with a truly uncut film master to do their release, it will be revelatory.

Will be interesting to see what improvements are made over the DVD transfer,
using the Negative sounds promising.

They found they neg a couple of years ago, but naturally it's in rough shape:

Unfortunately, it's in awful shape. Bad deterioration. Around 10 min worth of shots are so badly deteriorated that they're unusable. I have a complete (and very good shape) 35mm print that could be used to supplement the deteriorated shots but I'm not sure how fans would feel about this. Thoughts?

It'll still just be the standard release version.

Even as a composite transfer, it would be a huge improvement in quality over what has been available before.

Ahhh alright.

Well anyway, still fantastic to see something like this being preserved on blu ray, especially by a company that truly cares for their films.

I really hope this BD pulls through, I've heard great things. A friend of mine even once told me this was even better than Last House on the Left. Not sure how true that is, but I'm dying to find out!

Had the DVD of this and tried watching it a couple times, but fell a sleep both times. Ended up selling it and never finished watching it.

Maybe time to revisit it in HD? Is it worth trying again?

That's a strange comparison. Last House is definitely (infinitely) supersior but they aren't that similar. Like comparing Rosemary's Baby and Friday The 13th.

Last House on the Left is superior to Last House on Dead End Street or vice versa? I'm pretty sure I know which one you mean, but using "Last House" as shorthand isn't all that helpful in this case.
