Default 720p > 1080p

I see people complaining on here all the time about games not being 1080p. Why is it not understood that most 1080p games don't look good? I'm pretty sure Uncharted has the best graphics of any console game out so far, and it's only 720p. I'd rather see wicked lighting effects, environments, better physics, etc than 1080p. All of the 1080p PSN games look great, but they're also much less complex than an actual game, so they can devote more processing power to graphics.

I always thought Lair was upscaled to 1080p???

Uncharted IS a beautiful game, I can't believe it's only 24GB, I bet Uncharted 2 is going to be soiling yourself awesome, I personally don't care if it's 720p although 1080p would look a bit better if pulled off correctly, as long as I don't get another game like GTA 4 as in 640p with alot of jaggies i'm good.

GTA IV, like every GTA game, looks like garbage next to other big name games. For a GTA game it is great looking though. Of course, no one buys GTA for graphics and frame rate... (Maybe that should be a hint to game developers; Story/Game>HD&FR). Oh, and thats not to say that Liberty City is not impressive.

Ya I was definatly under impressed with GTA 4's graphics, but at least its entertaining. I'll just bide my time until MGS4 Killzone 2 and Gears 2 comes out then I'll get my graphic ***** fix. Also I think I remember looking at the back of my Lair box and seeing it only had 720p output. As for 1080p I can't really comment as my Panny only outputs 720p and have never really got to do a good comparison between the 2. However my next planned TV buy will be a 42 1080p plasma from Panasonic, looking very forward to that

I'm like 99% sure that Lair is 1080p.

Most 1080p aren't 1080p unless it's HL2... Gt5 is 1440x1080 i think.. some aren't 720p like GTA on PS3...

GT5 is 1080p and the graphics are amazing.. common sense is 1080p > 720p. You cannot compare Lair and Uncharted, is the developer the same.. if not.. apples to oranges..

Dude, bad comparison.
I have COD4 and gears of war on PC running 1920x1200 and it looks much sharper than all of those. The LAIR looks worse because it was not done well with lower res textures and upscaling.

Can't compare bad work, its apples to oranges..

GT5P pulled off 1080p damn good, and it's the only game that I think has. And why can't Lair and Uncharted be compared? It was the most recent 1080p PS3 exclusive out at the time Uncharted was released.

PS3 exclusive ok but were they both created by the same people with the same technology? If not then it is apples to oranges..

Ok, better comparison: Burnout Vs. GT5P. I think Burnout looks much better and it's only 720p.

Call of Duty 4 had great graphics and it wasn't even 720p. The point I'm trying to make is that you don't have to have 1080p to have great graphics.

Having played COD4 on both 720p and 1080p TVs, 1080p looked MUCH better and clearer.

i've only played the burnout demo but that's a pretty bold statement. Not only are the cars drool worthy but the environments surrounding these beauties is pretty impressive. I"m still shocked everytime i play the race with the mountains. I mean, it's gorgeous

I just can't see it.

Also, Lair was 800x1080 (2xAA) two AA buffers merged to be 1600x1080. Then, it was scaled to 1920x1080.

The only game I've seen so far that looks miles and away better at 1080p visually is Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (and even here you take a major hit in framerate when you run at 1080p versus 720p).

Lair looks pretty good at 1080, but not so much better than a 720p game that you'd care, due to the art style being, quite frankly, disappointing.

GT5P looks pretty sweet at 1080p, though.

Why don't you put the full statement in the title? 720p done right > 1080p done wrong.

I doubt you'd get much disagreement with that.

Instead you posted a complete absurdity as a title. It's no wonder people disagree with you.

I don't think it's as absurd as you think it is; but that would have been a better title.
