I just printed 100 brochures for my business on the brochure paper, and I also just printed the cover art for the four Die Hard's on the semi-gloss photo paper. The brochure paper is much heavier, almost like a very light card stock, where the semi-gloss (different from their regular photo paper) is almost identical to the real thing. What you're saying may be true if it's the regular HP photo paper, but not the semi-gloss.

The semi-gloss is also what's recommended by those in the AVS thread who make and print the custom art on a regular basis.
