I can see much wrong in spending $500 on a HD DVD player. Mainly, because if more and more people share this type of opinion, the longer HD DVD will take to die, again causing more confusion to the public. This is precisely why Toshiba went to such drastic measures in trying to push their format. The quicker we can have only one format (Blu-ray), the better in my opinion.
