And yet another thread about a classic movie release from WB is turned into a rant-n-rave from the same people who cannot get over the non-standard packaging...

Have you seen this on HDNet? I know it's cable, but it looks REALLY bad. I know it is an upgrade from the DVD, but the source looks to be in terrible condition. Just fair warning....

Well, they spend the majority of time in the nut house, so how good is it going to look. I can't wait for this one. I'm glad they're carrying over the DVD bonus features and I'm looking forward to the booklet.

I am saying there are obvious blemishes in the film. It's not a "Whoa, that's not sharp enough", it's a "Hey, is there little black holes through out the film?"

Just, fair warning. There is something very wrong with the source.

I think the whole point for a forum is to discuss all aspects of movies. Home videos, upcoming releases, new movies at the theater, etc . In regards to home videos(dvds, blu-rays, etc.) we discuss features that are on them & also even packaging.

-1 for all the complaint comments about the digibook packaging. I love them but even if I didn't, it's going to have no bearing on whether or not I own this classic in HD. I am stoked. First Cool Hand Luke and now this! And another Best Picture on Blu to add to the list...

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a classic, however, I WILL NOT be buying this Blu-ray because of the digi-book packaging. I will simply wait till it can be purchased as an import in a standard keep case. That being said, it is hands-down Jack Nicholson's greatest on-screen performance.

I really don't understand this mentality. Why hold back on such an incredible movie based upon packaging alone? You snag an empty Blu-ray case, make your own cover art or use something else, and then plop the disc in the new case. Problem solved.

I don't get it, never will....

Just how bad is this packaging? What are the problems with it?

I have seen this movie in the theater as child and at that time felt like a very boring film. Since then I haven't seen this. If I see this now I will probably have a different perspective.

It's larger in almost every respect (it's about the same thickness as a regular case) and feels kind of flimsy. The tray for the disc is just glued onto the cardboard cover and there's nothing to keep the disc in the case if it comes off of the hub. Some people don't like it mainly because it's not uniform.

this conversation comes up every time one of these is announced or release.

some people are into films for films sake, some people are collectors. collectors care about this stuff, film fans want to see a movie in good quality. that's the difference.

I don't understand people who won't buy this mnovie because of the packaging, I think it's ridiculous to an extreme degree. that being said getting into an argument helps no one, it's better just to understand where they're coming from.

I'm all for the "collector" mentality..... I mean, I collected a LOT of DVDs, but they had to be good movies, and I didn't care what package it came in if I wanted the movie..... I'd double-dip occassionally due to special packaging, but I never refused to purchase the first time around due to the packaging.......

I have blus I haven't watched yet, but I just finished watching "Godfather" and I'll probably try to squeeze part 2 in tonight also..... I don't buy movies because of PQ and Packaging alone.... I love movies, and if the transfer for Cuckoo's nest is anything like Shining, Clockwork Orange, or other older warner titles..... It's a no-brainer.... it's going into the collection, and I'll watch, and re-watch it several times. How many of you that are complaining about the packaging have even seen the movie???? You must not like it that much to let something that small keep you from buying it.

with good reason these cardboard releases really dont stand up to well most of the cardboard box-sets i have are looking bashed at corners and i do look after
my dvd collection. would prefer the steelbook type for special editions rather that the cardboard
