same.
the premise of the characters was so different, that I've been hooked (on a feeling? ) following this movie/thread since the initial announcement way, more than Thor/CA2.

Even caved and downloaded a few comics and I despise having read existing material before seeing movies as the few times I had, it kinda ruined the movie for me (reading 'Enter The Mandarin' set me up for a huge let down in IM3 for example )

maybe ignite a dislike in SHIELD/Fury?
I mean, we've see there's a dark side to him and the TV show hints at darker, less 'we're the good guys' type stuff.
Least that's what I reckon may happen.

I've read some of it and I think it's a fascinating story. I'd personally love to see it get on the big screen, but I know it's a big storyline, too.

I don't know where else to ask this question.
Same, but maybe once we've a few more Phases and TV shows under the MCU belt.

why not?

I mean we've already seen Tony Stark butt heads with the government, so to see how all other heroes would react to laws being applied to them just screams of an interesting plot/storyline to me

In the comics, Tony became the leader of the pro-registration group and tread into antagonist territory. He had his reasons for going along with the government, but I didn't like how the character acted during that time period. I blame the writers, however. Then they had to spend all this time "redeeming" Tony (ie, his speech to Cap's dead body and the great lengths he went to protect sensitive information from Norman Osborn in Dark Reign). Of course, if adapted to movies, they wouldn't follow the storyline exactly (and couldn't, anyway), and the Tony of the MCU acting like the Tony from the Civil War storyline would make no sense character-wise.

Still, I didn't like heroes vs. heroes, over some stupid government law (that was eventually dropped and is now largely ignored in the comics anyway). You had people who were friends and/or teammates for at least ten years going for the throat.

Besides, the universe isn't big enough. In the comics there were thousands of people with powers that would need to register themselves with the government. In the MCU, there aren't enough superhumans to even bother with the superhuman registration act.

- Tony Stark, no secret identity, "works for" S.H.I.E.L.D. as part of The Avengers.
- Cap, no secret identity, "works for" S.H.I.E.L.D. as part of The Avengers.
- Thor, no secret identity, "works for" S.H.I.E.L.D. as part of The Avengers.
- Hulk, no secret identity, "works for" S.H.I.E.L.D. as part of The Avengers.
- Black Widow and Hawkeye, no secret identities and work for S.H.I.E.L.D.

Even when you factor in guys like Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Scarlet Witch, Vision, and Quicksilver... Ant-Man may be affiliated with S.H.I.E.L.D., Doctor Strange would go off the grid, Black Panther is an African king and thus the SRA wouldn't apply to him, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver will most likely become Avengers and "work for" S.H.I.E.L.D., and it wouldn't apply to Vision.

So there's no point to it, really. Anyone that the SRA would apply to is pretty much already signed up with S.H.I.E.L.D., eliminating the main source of conflict. Of course, there are ways to adapt the story and apply it to this specific universe (the MCU), and have it be on a smaller scale, but right now I just don't see it.

Now that is something I really liked from the GOTG trailer and would like to try and simply touch base on, Quill's Walkman.

So what Galaxy, or time in the Universe is Peter Quill from? I'm only asking due to GOTG's relationship with the Avengers and what Universe they are from. The only thing that doesn't seem compelling or logical is Peter Quill, a space explorer, interplanetary policeman, and one of four Guardian's of the Galaxy (as they like to describe themselves) verses... Tony Stark - American Billionaire, weapons developer, and philanthropist, Steve Rogers - American war hero and Supernatural being, and Bruce Banner - American Scientist and Supernatural being... and in all, humans from Earth + The Mighty Thor of Asgard, a being from another realm. To simply put it... Peter Quill, Walkman?... I'm not too familiar with how he ties Earth and The Avengers with Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot all from other realms... He seems like he's from a different time on Earth, in comparison to The Avengers, who seem to be from a distant past

So... how would you tie-in Peter Quill...
Quote:
Peter Quill... born during an unusual astronomical phenomenon when many of the planets align. Seeing no resemblance, the man who believed he was Quill's father accuses his wife Meredith of infidelity and attempts to kill the infant, but dies of a sudden heart attack. Quill is raised by his single mother until she is killed by an alien when he is eleven. Quill is placed in an orphanage but escapes and eventually becomes a trainee NASA astronaut. An alien entity called the Master of the Sun eventually visits the space station that Quill and other astronauts are inhabiting, and offers the mantle of Star-Lord (an interplanetary policeman) to a worthy candidate. Quill volunteers, but is rejected in favor of a colleague he once treated badly. Quill is outraged, and NASA orders his return to Earth and discharge for his conduct. Instead, he steals a scoutship, returns to the space station, and takes his colleague's place. Quill becomes Star-Lord, with the Master of the Sun first creating an illusion in which the character is able to find and kill the aliens that murdered his mother to free him of his past. Equipped with a sentient vessel called "Ship", Quill commences his role as Star-Lord
^That.... reminds me so much of what happened in Thor: The Dark World Quill's backstory seems very interesting in this new Universe for Marvel

So will The Avengers 2 now take place much more into the future?

I guess we'll have to wait and see

Imagine growing up in outer space for twenty years with only a single crappy mixtape you made when you were eleven.

I'd survive. My mixtape would be filled with Iron Maiden, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin, probably one or two Metallica tracks too.

This is turning out to be a really fun thread... and that was funny btw, but really...
I can hear this song on "Quill's Mixtape"
I think it's even better LIVE... good concert

And, in all honesty I would probably have some Beastie Boys, Journey, Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Van Halen, etc

Also, I found this online and thought it would be interesting to share...

To make it short, here is the 2ND list of songs posted...

Yeah, I have a good feeling that it is going to be pretty successful in the box office. It's something new and it's something fresh and even risky as well. But, that aside, it looks like it will be good .

HA! I was looking over some of my comments here from when this was first announced:

While some of their films have featured lesser-known characters (like Iron Man), GotG is almost completely unknown outside of hardcore comics people, and they are a little more out-there (not to mention silly-looking).

If Marvel does proceed with a film based on this, they certainly should not try to position it as a major blockbuster release, because it won't be. On the contrary, I would think it will not do well at all.

yeah, this is a major misstep in Marvel's plans. And if it ties in closely with Avengers 2, it will drag that down as well.

I know you guys who are familiar with the comics are all gung ho about it, but the general public will not be as enthusiastic. Mark my words and come back in 2014 to see I told you so.
I have never been so happy to be SOOOO wrong.
