I think we should email homeentertainment@classicmedia.tv and politely explain the situation and express that we would buy Blu-ray reissues.
I'm thinking of doing this!

Are the dubbed versions cut at all? I'm just curious, because that would be an even bigger reason for me to skip the blu-rays. I'd much rather have the Japanese audio but at least if the films are not cut that would be a positive to me.

The end credits were cut off on them cause they didn't feel like translating them, I guess. Although, the Manga releases of King Ghidorah and Mothra 92 both had the end credits in English, and the sony dvds reused the Manga Dub, so I'm not sure why they didn't get the credits from them? Anyway, it's not a great loss. The actual content of the movie isn't cut in anything post-G85. It's too bad cause the end credits music on Mothra and Mechagodzilla II was gorgeous, but most people don't bother watching end credits to hear music Destoroyah also had a big montage of stock footage from older movies, but again, the actual movie was all there.

To me its not complete unless the entire film is shown, including the end credits...I want the original end credits - the Destroyer credits were great !

Just preordered these. I'll probably get the Godzilla criterion around the time these release too. I can't wait for the new one!

I also preordered all 9 upcoming German Blu-rays of which 5 of those movies are included in these Sony double packs lol.
Any word on the audio and subtitle tracks on those German releases? The Ghidorah 1964 film that came out there last year is supposed to not be English friendly. Also, a good question is whether the German or US releases will be new transfers or not. The Japanese blu-rays that were released were not that great picture-wise.

It's not going to be English friendly. German and Dutch subs. Japanese and German audio.

Regarding King Kong vs Godzilla Japan version. Universal does not own the rights, nor does it own the material, of the Japanese cut. They can ask for it from Toho, but logic stands to reason they won't. Why pay more money for a product they already own? I believe some time ago, a Universal Rep came forward and stated that they wouldn't find the prospect of obtaining the rights for the Japanese cut lucrative, so they're sticking with their bare bone cut.

As part of the deals to make the King Kong films, Toho signed away any rights in the territories controlled by their American partners. Therefore, Toho cannot offer the Japanese versions of either film to distributors in North America, the United Kingdom, Australia, etc. When Universal bought the movies from their American producers they acquired permanent ownership — including the rights to the Japanese versions — in North America. But the studio received the Americanized versions from John Beck and Rankin/Bass and do not have Japanese materials for either film.

With home video, satellite television and streaming there’s now a market for alternate versions of movies that didn’t exist when KING KONG VS GODZILLA and KING KONG ESCAPES were made. If Universal wanted to exercise their rights to the Japanese versions, they would need to purchase new interpositives or clones of the HD masters from Toho. To date, Universal has not pursued this option, believing the potential sales for the titles do not justify the additional expense.
