Not TT related ,but since we're on the eco cases sidetrack. Got an Amazon order of 3 BDs yesterday...and all 3 are going back. All 3 ecocases smashed. Opened one, and let's just say that when half of the surface area doesn't have plastic, it's much easier for a crack to go 3/4s the length of the entire case. If it cracked a little further, the only thing holding the two sides together would be the clear plastic sheet for the insert. Thought to replace them myself with some spares but why bother. I don't buy new product and expect to replace crap right away.

Well, technically, it's only $5 more. The MSRP on Fox's The Agony and the Ecstasy Blu-ray is $24.99. Sure, you can get it for a lot less than that, but that's the doing of the retailers, not Fox.

Yeah...that's the folly of the eco-case.

The actual savings per case to manufacture and eco-case is likely a fraction of a penny. 50 million metric tonnes of polypropylene are used every year and the amount "saved" by making eco-cases is below the threshold of measurement.

But the cost of returned Blu-rays is real.

By packing those 3 BDs in eco-cases, the manufacturer and distributor probably saved about $0.015.

Now they'll have to pay for them to be returned, restocked and repacked (assuming they can be resold) in addition to the initial cost to to ship them to the customer in the first place. This excercise is probably going to cost them $10.00.

Not possible. Americans only manufacture eco cases at this time. Standard cases have to be imported.

I don't mind the delay, except that I ordered three titles with my current bank card, which expires on March 23. A new card has been sent to me, but I'm waiting until after I get charged for this SAE shipment to activate it. I guess that I could contact SAE with the new bank card info, but it's sort of a hassle, so I'll hold tight for another week or so.

They should've ordered black cases for their exclusive Blu-ray releases. That would look quite nice.

you're saying discmakers ONLY makes eco cases now?
I mean I know the Elite cases have been getting thinner and thinner from them, but I still thought they made "regular" cases without cutouts or depressed sections--just really thin now.
It's amazing to me that Discmakers don't set up some of the "old" molds every once in a while to make thicker cases for collectors that long for the ORIGINAL Elite cases from the early days of bd. They could make an absolute fortune from collectors. They are really missing out on some good profits imo.

I wonder why the TT guy doesn't take the time to c/p his HTF post here as well? I think this site gets a tad more traffic and thus generates more sales.

Hey look, $15.99... as sold by FOX!

http://www.foxconnect.com/the-agony-...e-ecstasy.html

But seriously, that was kind of my point. Regardless of the MSRP, Fox titles are actually sold by third party distributors (and therefore range in price, go on sale, etc.). Twilight Time titles are exclusively sold by Screen Archives and TCM for $29.99 and never go on sale.

I agree, MSRP is essentially meaningless these days. Nobody pays that...unless it's a TT title. The only thing that matters is prevailing street price and the TT people are touting MSRP as it were still some meaningful metric, in order to favorably compare itself to everyone else.

MSRP is actually a meaningful metric for comparison's sake, as it's (for the most part) constant across time and across retialers. Even in a given store, the prices will change week to week, or even day to day. The fact that I can get a particular title at Best Buy for $9.99 today doesn't mean I'll be able to get it there at that price next week.

It's useful to point out that Fox will provide such-and-such for $25, while someone else will provide more, or less, for the same price.

Actually, it's not. Very little correlation whatsoever between SRP and street pricing as a whole.

I ordered Thunderbolt and Lightfoot yesterday, and it was shipped later that same day (standard mail). It'll probably be here on Saturday or Monday unless weather conditions are an issue. The same type of quick shipment happened several months ago on Amazon, too. Why do orders made through Screen Archives Entertainment's seller account at Amazon ship faster? The orders are never "fulfilled by Amazon," so it couldn't be because of that.

I've noticed that too. They will complain about the snow and the impact it has on deliveries, but it doesn't interfere with their Amazon deliveries. I imagine the possibility of negative reviews/feedback has something to do with it.

Quite true: look at ANY of the graphs on Blu-ray.com for any blu-ray and one can see how wildly prices can vary from one day to the next.

Amazon Marketplace sellers are required - by Amazon - to guarantee that items will be shipped within two business days of the order being placed. SAE has no such requirement.

Third party sellers at Amazon can basically do as they wish and Amazon will not do a thing about it. I had this guy not ship, cancel or refund for three weeks. Amazon would not do a darn thing about it (even after contacting customer service via chat, email and phone). I opened a silly case and waited two weeks...the guy never responded. Finally, Amazon just cancelled my order.

There's no guarantee at all that third party sellers have to ship in two days...no matter what anyone states .
