The PAL PS3 works perfectly at 1080p and 1080i resolutions for a 1080p or 1080i BD. If set to output to only 720p it drops back to 520p (I'm guessing) unless it's a 720p source (tested with a game). This is a known bug and should not be a problem as most 720p monitors will accept 1080i and even 1080p inputs. Agreed there are many people out there saying the PS3 is the worst device ever made and would never own one (unless it had a HD-DVD drive in it...)
My computer monitor (24") can handle progressive only my projector is a 720p but can accept 1080i signals.
