I always thought Steelbook collector's were picky, every time I see one of these home made clear jobs they look pretty rough, tons of dirt and junk in them. Also, the way it's being done will never hold up, they need to be taken apart first and the surface needs to be prepped correctly, just slapping clear over the metal and plastic all at once is a bad idea and a waste of $$$ IMO. I don't mean to offend anyone who has already done it, just warning those thinking about ruining a $50 Steelbook.....

Have you seen the pics posted in this thread? There's nothing rough about them

I wasn't going to comment at all because the last thing I want to do is sit here picking at the guys work, but seriously, you are over here cherry picking the best pictures that show the least amount of dirt. Whatever, I want you guys to be happy, good for you!

I just picked my 2 favorite steels, I'm not trying to cherry pick the pics. I think they all look great. To say all the ones you've seen are rough and have tons of junk n them is hyperbole, plain and simple. But if you you want to be that guy, so be it.

Peter pan fleck - YouTube
Although I would never do that to my own steelbooks, that one is pretty impressive

Ok. Now THAT is pretty cool and I can see where adding a gloss makes sense in this case.

I would never gloss a steelbook just to gloss it. But, to add an appropriate effect such as this? I just might consider taking the plunge. Of course, that would involve having a steelbook that I would want to do something like this to. Peter Pan just ain't gonna be in my collection, so...

The Peter Pan looks very impressive. Spraying rare steelbooks like Iron Man or Thor would lower their value but, I think, a professional, dust free job would actually increase the value of the cheaper ones especially if someone talented experiments with pearlescents, UV or foil. There's nothing to stop anyone buying blank steelbooks and creating totally unique items.

I'm too much of a coward to attempt this myself, but those all look amazing.

I suggested doing something like this a few years ago with the UK Rock of Ages purple case, since the mock up was so much better looking than the actual product!
Although I'd have to remove the plastic and then reapply it.
