Miles Teller Offers Praise for THE FANTASTIC FOUR Script And Director Josh Trank
Explaining what appealed to him about the role of Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic, actor Miles Teller praises the Fox/Marvel reboot's director, Josh Trank, as well as its "very human" script. When IGN caught up with The Spectacular Now actor Miles Teller today to discuss his role in Divergent, the interview inevitably became about The Fantastic Four and his role as Reed Richards, Mr. Fantastic. "Well, for me I didn't grow up really as a comic book kid necessarily," said Teller when asked what appealed to him about the Marvel reboot. "Fantastic Four is my dad's favorite superhero comic. And so for me I guess what attracted me originally was Josh Trank. I think Josh Trank is a very creative, inventive guy. You look at Chronicle, you look at what he did for that budget and just how he told the story was really well done. I want to chase directors at this point, and then the cast kind of came together -- Michael B. [Jordan], Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell -- I was very excited." He continued, "I was joking around about a year ago, 'I guess I'll be playing a supehero soon' because that's just the world that we're in, but I think a lot of times it just looks like Hollywood actors in Halloween costumes, you know? And I think what we're going to do with Fantastic Four is going to be very grounded and it made sense to me." "When I read the script, I didn't feel like I was reading this larger-than-life, incredible supehero tale," Miles Teller enthused. "These are all very human people that end up having to become I guess what is known as the Fantastic Four. So for me it was just a really good story and gives me an opportunity to play something different from my own skin. It's a proper character and that's my favorite stuff to do." In a separate interview while at the Phoenix premiere of Divergent, Teller told The Nerd Repository that he'll be "leaving pretty soon to start filming" Fantastic Four. He also stated that while doesn't yet know if he will rock Mr. Fantastic's gray temples, he did do a "full body scan the other day for... something" and that's all he knows. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansit.../news/?a=95745 YAY! Yet another fantastical comic book movie with the word grounded in it's description. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Yeah, I know what they mean by "grounded" but it bugs me that, for example, they can't do a comics-authentic Green Goblin on the basis that it's too unbelievable, when the film's about a guy who gets superpowers from being bitten by a spider.
I can't see how FF is going to be grounded unless the Human Torch has to spend a month in hospital with severe burns after he flames-on and Reed Richards develops crippling arthritis. |

I for one have only seen him in Chronicle and Awkward Moment and he was nothing special. Not changing comic lore for anyways. Chris Evans set a pretty high bar as well. |

I'm glad they skipped him for a role he was apparently ii-suited for--i.e. awkward young man and he landed the role he best fits---- ruggedly handsome, ex gang member turned war hero, tough guy, fighter pilot Ben Grimm. Every time I see Bell I just think "that's Ben Grimm in the flesh!" |

Oh boy, he joked around--as in lamented ---the fact they he someday would have to play a super hero "because that's the world we live in.." But now he's playing a "grounded hero"----"grounded" as in someone who squeezes his body flat enough to slide under a door or thru a keyhole. ![]() And what movies in the last several years look like actors in "Halloween costumes"---seen any or just talking thru your a$$ ? Instead of Teller saying...........
"There's been some damn fine comic based movies made lately and we have a high standard to meet." .......he mocks the previous ones. Instead of Jordan saying.......... "I hope the fans give me a chance to prove that they made the right choice." ......he says, "No matter what they say they're going to come see it anyway."----exactly what someone says when they get handed something they didn't earn. It's almost as if Fox doesn't give a damn about how the narrative of this project goes, they don't do a proper announcement of the cast they don't instruct the cast to think before they speak about the project they are clueless as to how to create goodwill for a project that even with a great cast might have problems hitting Iron Man or even Thor levels of interest and excitement. Heavy-weights like Kingsley, Hopkins, Tommy Lee Jones, Stewart and Mckellan have been far more respectful towards the subject matter than these nobodies. It's like they want to cancel it at the last minute and then leak rumors that 'bigoted fans' had turned opinion against the film. Last edited by Bolty; 03-10-2014 at 03:32 AM. |

Im against the Human Torch unconventional casting but I just watched Fruitvale Station just now and Jordan was excellent so my opinion has changed and I think he'll make a good Human Torch. There's a scene in Fruitvale where he's running in slo-motion and it made me think of him running to take off flying as Human Torch. For anyone upset with the casting, go rent Fruitvale - an excellent touching flick.
I would just be concerned with the story at this point. |

Aside from Asgard, The Inhumans (also a part of the FF-verse) or GoG (don't know much about them yet), The FF are supposed to be the -least- grounded superheroes of the Marvel Universe. The threats they face are planet or even dimension/ universe ending. What in the flying ... ![]() Last edited by Elandyll; 03-11-2014 at 05:42 PM. |

On this board it doesn't surprise me at all that people don't like his casting as Johnny Storm. Just look at the 12 Years A Slave thread. |
