We'll finally have the opening looking correct after two failed attempts by Arrow! B&W-No! Sepia-No! Bob will get it right.

The opening is supposed to be in sepia...

Still have my Beyond tin set. Will probably double dip for this though.

I've been waiting for these two films to get a good blu release for so long now. I almost peed myself when I saw the post on bloody-disgusting. Now here's hoping for some excellent features to round this out (the special features on the 2 disc CH DVD were so great, and seeing as my copy was stolen I'm more than stoked to see them again on blu.) I'm still not throwing out my Beyond tin set though. I love that damn thing.

That it is. The arrow version has the untinted version in the bonus features though.

EDIT: Can't say I had any issues with the transfer on the Arrow disc, I guess since I'd gotten used to watching the movie in like, a 640x240 AVI file, the bluray looked absolutely stunning to me! I usually don't even notice edge enhancement. If the transfer really is so bad then great that it's being re-done. If it looks substantially different I might get it, but probably not if they don't have any other gimmicks to go with it. I love the features on the arrow discs. The commentary track with Catriona Maccoll and the male lead is great. I love when he points out the scene in which he started reloading the magnum by sticking bullets into the tip of the barrel as a joke, and Catriona starts laughing in the shot, and that is the shot that actually got used in the movie!! The only other thing I would like to see would be a detailed feature on the makeup effects cause there are some really stunning ones in this movie, especially that girl's head exploding!

The Arrow Blu-ray also has a pretty bad audio flub in the scene
[Show spoiler]where Martha finds Joe the plumber's body
. The audio goes badly out of sync at the end of the shot immediately preceding this and stays out of sync for some time.

Re: the opening, while Arrow did reissue the Blu-ray with a tinted opening (after first releasing it with the opening in black-and-white), some folks have said that Arrow didn't use the correct tint.

No interest in Cannibal Holocaust really, but I'm down for The Beyond for sure.

I'm definitely interested in The Beyond if it fixes the Arrow issues. I saw The Beyond in a local theatre during the revival before it hit DVD, and it was a blast. The audience was going crazy and it was a hoot.

I'm also looking forward to Cannibal Ferox. Not a great film, but I remember it fondly from my early days renting horror VHS.

Time for this debate again:
Quote:
Another triumph was the stylised opening lynch-mob sequence set in 1927, a combination of Lentini’s masterful period costumes and sets, Di Rossi’s painfully realistic makeup special effects, and Salvati’s striking cinematography. “Initially the prologue was to have been shot in black and white to simplify the whole operation,” recalls Salvati. “But then I opted for the soft yellow, almost golden filter which blended in with the torches and flashes of light and was reflected in the clothes worn by the inquisitors and the burnt lime on Schweik’s face. What I was trying to recreate was the effect of an old, yellowed photograph, something outside of time, putting a gap between the present day story and the prologue as if they were two separate films, divided by an infinite arc of time, a long bridge, like the one that Liza takes to meet Emily. I discarded the usual sepia – the colour of memories – since there are no relationships between the characters based on memory. Instead, THE BEYOND is a horror that lies outside time and space”.
See, the Director of Photography himself states he DID NOT use sepia tone for the opening.

^^^ What he said. I bought the Diamond Entertainment DVD in that post, and all it was was a glorified DVD-R of a PAL laserdisc of The Beyond, in which they freeze framed where it would've said "The Beyond", and smacked text saying "SEVEN DOORS OF DEATH" overtop.

For the real US cut, you need to find the Thriller Video VHS:

I'm sorry if it came across like I was saying "No, Seven Doors of Death was also released on these DVDs", when I was trying to say "There's even more DVDs of The Beyond, where it's listed as Seven Doors of Death", contributing to the discussion of how it's had many releases.

It's not a debate, I just had never heard that before and thought you meant it was supposed to be in FULL color cause that's something that's out there. You're clearly right here!

Yes, but I don't remember which release it was.

Intended golden-yellow tint:

Incorrect Sepia tint:

Now I have to go home and check my Arrow copy again. The top picture with the golden-yellow tint appears to be one I have on my Arrow copy. I have to double check to be sure. When originally bought it a few years ago, I remember Arrow sending me a corrected copy.

That's correct. I watched an old, almost pristine, Dutch 35mm print of it last month, and the beginning looked nothing like the Arrow release.

Fulci is gone but isn't the cinematographer still around? He would clear this up. Nobody has to guess what the intentions were or weren't if they just ask him.
