In announcement news today, MGM has set a new Escape from New York (1981) Blu-ray for release on 6/3, along with The Birdcage (1996). We have no other details yet on either, aside from the fact that each will SRP for $19.99. [Read on here...]

Hmmm...a remastered edition perhaps?

I noticed it on Amazon.ca. It would be amazing if it was a 4K remaster, but there's been no word of this title getting that treatment unlike the others that have. Amazon.ca lists it for 5/6 btw:

I would be happy with all of the extras on the SE DVD being carried over. But a new transfer, too? Boner....

why would anyone want to escape from New York?......

I really love this movie myself and the present blu is fine but if they do it better..ya never know

That indeed would be nice. I am all for a new transfer maybe a new commentary with Carpenter and Russell...

Probably just adding the special features missing from the first release. Hopefully some new ones.

Nothing wrong with the current transfer, some say it's too dark. I didn't have a problem with it.

New transfer + the extras a la Robo/Rocky would be schweet, although I don't have a major beef with the MGM BD and I've also got the lovely R1 SE DVD which I won't be getting rid of regardless.

Almost bought the current BD for $7.99 a few weeks ago, Good thing i passed on it.

I watched the current transfer today and there wasn't much wrong with it except for that it's a bit dark. If the new BD has a new 4K transfer I hope they keep the unnecessarily high bitrate the current release has (About 38 mbps).
