The movie itself...eh...the DVD bored me, this is probably one I won't pick up, regardless of its technical standouts. A Bridge Too Far is a def pick-up.

Battle of Britain has probably the best images of aerial battles and air armadas ever represented on film. If all you've seen is such CGI nonsense like Pearl Harbor, you really should see this film.

Not too favorable over at HDD....

Movie: 2.5/5
PQ: 2.5/5
AQ: 2.5/5

I'm not going to let a subpar HDD review stop me from picking this up at some point though.

Especially since it's Bracke who reviewed it.

question: I just watched this and I noticed that all the German language parts are unsubtitled - yet in order to read them, one has to revert to the English SDH option - what the hell is THAT all about? so far, of the few online reviews I've researched - don't include this fact ... at all.

I just watched this a few weeks ago and the subtitles were there without having to do anything - maybe it depends on your player?

it probably is, it really doesn't like Fox titles - it's just up and stopped playing Mann's 'Last of the Mohicans' all together.

They used a print which did not include the original English translation captions for the German part.
Instead it uses the subtitle option so they can use the same transfer in many countries.
Not the first time MGM does that!
I hate it

Watching this one again, and it's a good example of an early-format-expectations good review, whereas now the video transfer just doesn't hold up. While looking sharp (artificially), the transfer looks more like video than film. Colors are good, but it may be a bit too boosted in the contrast. While the source looks pretty good, the digital work has left the grain standing out unnaturally.
The 5.1 DT-HD Master mix is a very good effort. With some of the aircraft takeoffs I could really feel the pressure on me.
This one, with its MPEG2 encode, could use an update.

Ridley Scott is supposedly working on a Battle of Britain film, undoubtedly there will be a new release of the 1969 version at the same time

This and a Bridge Too Far are badly in need of proper restorations/special editions.

Twelve years later, I bought the blu-ray and saw it again this weekend and I was astounded by how much fun I had.

I suppose a different in tastes between 21 year old me and 33 year old me.

Glad I gave it another chance!

I would Love a New Restored Bluray of Battle of Britain. Also 633 Squadron needs to be released in the US on Bluray.

I wonder what happened to this, especially now that Fox is gone. No mention of it on his IMDB page now, though I do see another unnamed Alien prequel.
