I strongly doubt any definitive information on the potential blu-ray editions will come through until the sell cycle of the current trilogy release to DVD has run it's course.

Probably not until Crystal Skull drops out of the top 10 at the box office at the very least.

And having seen the film today, I'm pretty sure it's going to be a while before that happens.

I just want the standard keep case available as well. Why is that a concept so hard to grasp? I simply prefer what I consider to be the perfect packaging for Blu-ray discs—the keep case. It is the standard which can be replaced for less than a buck should it become worn, torn, cracked or lose the ability to secure the disc. We don't all think alike my friend, and we certainly don't all have the same likes and dislikes. So don't get your panties in a bind.
the post wasn't necessarily directed at you. you brought up the point I have been defending for some time so I just quoted you. I agree with you on The Digi books though. those things are weird.

EDIT: Does anyone know if American History X is in the pipeline?

I personally do not care for steelbooks because everyone I have has RUSTED. The humid summer in Hawaii has taken a toll on a number of things I have. Foam surrounds on speakers (or any foam product), magnetic traces on Magneplanar speakers, headphone earpads and other stuff have deteriorated over the years. The rubber boots on Monster Cable products only last a couple of months before they disintegrate (I don't like their calbles but their connectors are handy). DVDs have rotted and delaminated. I know people in the southeast also experience these issues so they know what I am talking about...

Wow - humid enough for DVDs to delaminate? That must be horrible - if that's true, that'd be enough to make me move away.

I have no doubt that sales will reach a fever pitch when players and software prices come down to earth on a permanent basis. Most people will scoff at paying nearly $30 for a Blu-ray disc they can purchase on DVD for less than half that price. That fact more than any particular title will have the greatest effect.
I totally concur with my colleague. Most people are going to pick up a $5 DVD versions because their 4:3 tube tv looks just fine and has no black bars. Education, Education, Education is the key... Everything should go HiDef February 2009....

This is why my A/C bill is so high. I'm always afraid the 90% plus humidity is going to ruin my speakers.

Wow, I live down south pretty much 90% humidity and 90-100+ degrees a day, and I've had nowhere near those problems!

It's likely

Don't forget there's a bunch of now-ex HD DVD authoring places with trained VC-1 techs and encoders that are perfectly good for Blu work. I'm sure they'd like to stick with what they ahve as much as possible

It's good to hear that Universal have chosen DTS-HD MA. It would be excellent if they shift to 7.1 like New Line.

And the bomb problem for those who are unaware of the DSP update?
I wish they had stuck with TrueHD like they did when they supported the "other" format. At least Paramount is.

New Line's 7.1 is sketchy at best. They don't always flag it properly and most people are getting 5.1 from those tracks (PS3 owners).

If the original track wasn't 7.1 I see no benefit from them "remixing" it rather than let the Ultra2 circuit in my receiver do it instead.

Hmm. If bringing up legitimate issues is "hating" (what is that anyway, dialog from Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood?) then whatever.

Damaging your sound playback gear is also a legit issue.

"FilmMixer" on AVS confirmed that La Casa is just reprocessing the original 5.1 tracks for New Line, they are not 7.1 masters, nor is every release flagged consistently.

I'd also like to finish watching Master & Commander right now but since they have no night mode (it's 12:45AM right now)...

I still don't see how the "DTS bomb" is at all the fault of the encoders, since it's only present in certain makes of receivers (and has since been fixed for most, if not all, applications).

Supposedly DTS has said they will modify the encoders.
Too late for Golden Compass though.

I know DD True HD and DTS HDMA is supposed to be identical, but on many soundtracks it really seems that DTS HDMA sounds more dynamic, clear and uncompressed.
